Thanks T!

The spotting is normal after HSG; they say it'll last about 2-3 days, but everyone's different. One of my friends had light bleeding for over a week and her doctor said it was normal. The brown color may be a result of the contrast medium, and I'd imagine some old blood could also cause it. If you're concerned, I'd definitely contact your doctor. You can never be too safe about this kind of stuff.

(I had a chromotubation (similar procedure) done during my last lap, and I was draining blue dye for a week! It stained my skin and everything. DH kept joking and told me I cheated on him with a Smurf! LOL)

Does anyone know how long before I should feel better from the retrieval? I am still so sore today and I really thought it would have been much better today!

I talked to the doctor about it today and he said it's pretty average, i guess? I think it was hard for me because they were kind of hyping me up, saying that because I was so young, I was going to get so many. So I figured I'd end up with a bunch of embryos, too. I was thinking I'd have at least 6-8, but I guess I was wrong

As for the prepping, I probably spent 30 mins in the room before the actual transfer took place. They gave me a valium & tylenol, did some US, BW to detect progesterone levels, then they did a practice run with an empty catheter to make sure they could get through the cervix OK and were able to get the catheter where they needed to for an ideal transfer. Then was the transfer, and they had me lay there for 15-20 min after before I was free to get up and go home.

Only 5 embryos was a big surprise. I know exactly what you mean expecting 6-8. I have a friend that had IVF 20 years ago (she had happy, healthy twins), and she said they also got 13 eggs from her, all of them fertilized. She was prepping me on freezing them and what happens if this doesn't work. So here I am thinking I'm going to put 8 on ice and now I'm not sure there will be any getting frozen. Which reminds me... when do we discuss how many get implanted? And do they automatically freeze the extras, or is that another decision I need to make?

Thanks again for sharing with us, it makes it a little less nerve wracking having a first-hand account of what to expect.

Hi! I haven't checked the posting in awhile ... we were in Spain on vacation and I start Lupron there.
Started Lupron on May 10. 10 units
FSH: 150 (Follistim) HMG 150 (menopur) since the 22nd with Lupron at 5 units. In monitoring stage now! Possible transfer Mon, Tues or Wednesday next week. Yikes. Are you feeling good?

Lala- they say you may not be up and moving like normal for 2 days or so, but everyone's different. Just be aware of the symptoms of OHSS and contact your doctor if you start feeling any of them.

About the transfer/cryopreservation -

Your doctor will probably discuss all that with you on the day of your ET. I'm sure he/she will let you decide how many you want implanted (within reason, of course!), and what your plans are for the rest of the embryos. I doubt they'd have a problem with you giving them a call and gathering more information now. After all, ultimately, it's your body and your life, and it's natural for patients to have questions/concerns for an event of this magnitude.

I've been reading your posts - it helps so much to know we are all doing this together! I don't have an updated calendar so I don't know what injections I take after Friday for trigger. I assume just the HCG or do you take it with the other FSH and HMG too? So confused and overwhelmed. RE made a comment today about my lining - I think he wanted it to be more developed. He also told us that we shouldn't totally expect to be able to freeze any embryos. I'm worried after today but I still have 2 more days of FSH and HMG & Lupron. Good luck to you all!

The hCG shot is your trigger, and your retrieval usualy happens 36 hours from the injection. Usually, you stop the stims before you trigger and wait for retrieval!

Amber thanks for the info - that makes sense for how much follistim meds I have left. How was your transfer today? I wonder if the dose of 225 of FSH helped the hyper stimulation occur? I'm only on 150 and much older eggs than you!

The transfer seems to have gone well. I was nervous because I thought it was going to be painful, but I only felt a little bit of discomfort. I think I would have preferred to transfer 2 embryos, but I'm blessed to have made it this far and am happy for the one little guy they implanted today.

The 225 of FSH probably had something to do with the OHSS, and this is the first time I've ever taken it. It seems that if they were giving me too much I would have ended up with more eggs? Maybe they just didn't retrieve all of them. According to the nurse I had about 15 follies on one side and 8 on the other, so you'd think I would've had more eggs than that? I've never done this before, and I've been on BC for 7+yrs to control the endo, so I've never even ovulated normally/regularly to begin with, and I wasn't too sure what to expect for my body.

Hi. I'm new to this board and am wondering if I could
be cycle buddies with all of you. I am a "veteran" IVFer. I had my first IVF 8 yrs. ago and got pregnant w/ my baby girl who is now 7. Had a 2nd IVF, 2 yrs. later and it was unsuccessful. Now, I'm 39 yrs. old, and going through my 3rd IVF. I started repronex 225 on 5/21st and 75 iu follistem pen inj. I'm on my 7th day of stimulation. My stomach is big. You would think I have 20 eggs, but two days ago, I only had 5.
YIKES! So, tomorrow is my 2nd ultrasound to see how many eggs again and what sizes they are.

If you have any questions, or concerns, and since I've gone through this IVF and IUI's, I feel like I could
be a RE Dr..I could help some of you.

I am wondering now about how many embryos my RE will implant now... I don't know the best way to go. From what we know of me, I can carry a pregnancy without problems, I just can't concieve. That makes me wonder how many he'll recommend. I was told to expect 2-3, but then I worry about reducing. Can you imagine how awful that would be?

The thing about calling my center is that you can never talk to the RE. You get the nurse's station and a different nurse everytime. Most of them are really nice, but you can never get an answer - you always get their best guess and then they say, "But you have to talk to the doctor". Its frustrating, but I've learned its easiest just to wait and talk to him.

I do feel a little more alert today, just still sore. I'm still walking around hunched over like Quasimodo, but at least that gives DH something to laugh at!

Hey WB2 - Just wanted to welcome you to the board and tell you that you can always share your IVF experiences. I think the best way to learn what to expect is to hear it from the people who've gone through it. Likewise, feel free to ask or PM if there is anything you need.

Welcome again!
