Considering my Options

While I'm hoping and praying that I'm pregnant (in the middle of my 2WW) I'm trying to prepare for the worst. Unfortunately RE doesn't feel that continuing oral medications + IUI will work if it doesn't take this time and wants to move onto injectibles.

DH and I are in the process of trying to sell our house so we can afford injectibles - but that could take months, maybe even a year in this terrible market. Bearing that in mind, I'm giving some thought to my options.

So far I've only thought of two. If you girls could help me think of others to present my RE with, and give me the benefit of your experience on good ways to go, I'd really appreciate it.

My first thought was to continue taking clomid and/or femara with no monitoring or IUI. That until we have enough money saved up for injectibles, we could just try naturally at home with the help of the fertility meds. This is a bleak outlook though, since they don't seem to work well for me.

My second thought was to look into ovarian drilling. I'm not sure if insurance will cover it, but if it does I'm thinking this could be a viable option to buy us a few months of increased fertility.

What else could we do?

I am hoping for your BFP with this cycle!

Unfortunately continued use of clomid can cause cysts and this is not good. You'll need to take a break from clomid.

Could you ask your RE if they have any donated meds to help you out with the costs of the injectables.

We had a friend who used injectables. They went online and bought "left over" drugs from someone who had bought a stash, gotten pregnant and then didn't need the rest of their meds. They were prescribed the exact dose and the specific medicine, they just got them in a slightly unconventional though cheaper way. They did get pregnant with IVF and are soon going to have their child. They have in turn offered us the remainder of their medicine should I need it (although we aren't to injectables yet.) Just a thought.....but you have to be careful the medicine had been kept cool and is in original packaging (and isn't fake).

Again, just passing along info should it be something worth considering. Good luck.

Just remember, this is ILLEGAL. If it doesn't come from a Dr. or pharmacy, you're really taking a chance...the chance of facing mounting legal bills if you get caught to facing difficult medical issues if the medications are stored correctly or turn out to be fake.

Something to to keep in mind, whatever you do, going forward.

Have you contacted Fertility Lifelines?

Wow...sorry. I didn't know that was illegal. Although I suppose now that I think about it, that makes sense. Sorry...not trying to cause problems.

Unfortunately IVF isn't ever going to be an option for us. Not with that price tag!

What is fertility lifelines?

They are an organization that helps with meds etc, but I don't know what all they cover and don't cover.

It's based on financial need.

Have you thought about fundamental things like raiding your basement/attic and having a big garage sale or one of you getting a second job for a while to save for injectibles? ALso, my doctor gave unused and unopened meds to people who didn't have coverage. It helped some people a lot. I donated my unused meds when I was done.

Not only a garage sale but we've sold almost everything we own. A car, washer and dryer, extra bed, both computer desks, etc. etc.

So far I'm saving THAT money for renovating the house to prepare it for sale. Why can't I just be a millionaire?

This doesn't happen often but i thought i would let you know that my sister is having IVF in Aug. and her doctor coded the drugs as medically necessary and her insurance is now covering them....just a thought that you may want to ask about b/c they are medically necessary to get you to ovulate!
I am hoping that will work for me as a prepare to cycle b/c so far my insurance has sucked for IF!
BEST OF LUCK!

I also had to pay out of pocket for my first IVF. I got through because the doctor had 'donated' meds that he was able to give me for FREE! It's worth looking into and saved us alot of money!
Now that I have coverage, I've been donating all my unused meds back to the office.
Wishing you luck!!!
