Anyone have experience with ovarian cysts?

I do not have a diagnosis of PCOS, but have a persistent cyst that shrinks and gets bigger, probably related to one of my pregnancies that didn't work out.

So this month it started to cramp a bit, got pretty intense the day of ovulation, and then subsided. Now it's 8dpo and I woke up to pain in and around the right ovary. Not doubling over kind of pain, more like hurts to walk a bit pain, down my leg. Can't cross my legs.

There is also a chance that I am pregnant. So I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this kind of cyst? There's part of me that wonders- would it worsen in pain if I did get pregnant? Could it any way be affected my changes in that area early on?

I am going to see my doctor today. I am hoping it's not a rupture kind of situation. Although if it is anything, they are probably going to pregnancy test me early before giving me anything, so I may know the answer sooner rather than later. My doctor's office is being super annoying about getting me a same day appt, I have been waiting for them to call me back for awhle now.

Also, if anybody has any experience with a recurrent ovarian cyst (PCOS or non) I'd appreciate it.

Hi Jessica! I have never been officially diagnosed with ovarian cysts, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I've had them in the past. When I was on Depo (after years of being on it without symptoms) sometimes I would get seriously nasty cramps always on the right side, always in the right place. However, since I went off Depo, I haven't had anything obscure like that!

On a happy note, if you're 8dpo, it could be implantation cramps! I'm not sure what happens if you're pregnant, I imagine the extra surge of hormones coursing through your body would aggravate a recurring cyst. I hope you get good news at the doctor!

Hi Mom2cats4now- And congrats on your pregnancy! I hope everything continues to go well for you. I like your name by the way.

I am hoping that maybe this pain is caused by something good and not something bad. I also think it would be nice to not need to wait until 14dpo to see what is going on. I am scheduled to see the doc in an hour so I will know a little more then.

I did have cramps the day of ovulation but this is a little more intense. But who knows. Thanks for posting your experience.

I have cysts on my ovaries too.

I hate those cysts they hurt me a lot. They come and go, but they are definetly the problem fo why I can't get pregnant. For now, I have to get a Biopsy done and then some treatment for my cysts. I am just giving up on the thought of getting pregnant.

I have ovarian cysts that rupture about every three months. Usually closer to ovulation not as far in to my cycle as you are. The pain is very intense and my worst symp. is difficulty walking. However, when they rupture I usually cannot stand up straight which makes walking a little tricky. My cysts never interupted my cycles, prevented ovulation or anything else...

Hope that the pain is something else...and that you get your BFP!!!

Amyinohio- Congrats on being a new mommy!

I agree, I've never noticed the cysts to interfere with my ovulation or anything else. I even got pregnant again while having one, though it didn't last. I got my ultrasound yesterday and they don't see the cyst anymore? There's part of me that wonders if it didn't rupture the day I ovulated, when I had a lot of pain. They said sometimes people just get weird pains in the 2ww? I've never heard or experienced this. In fact- mine was just like yours, pain walking?

So they aren't sure what it is and they want me to wait and take a HPT or to let them know if the pain gets worse. I am not sure what is going on in there.

I will say this I've been very tired, lots of CM and weird boob soreness. So maybe there will be a . Having been pregnant twice, though short lived, I am kind of aware of how my body feels and it does feel close. Sadly, after two losses I don't get too excited anymore. It's just a wait and see.

Linethlabella- I am really sorry to hear that you think these cysts are interfering with your infertility. Do you have a diagnosis of PCOS? I do know even with cysts, IVF can be helpful but I don't know if that's something you would consider. Being in pain does not sound fun either. Best wishes for you in finding some answers and being more comfortable!

Hi jessica, I was just diagnosed with my 3rd ovarian cyst yesterday L me and my hubby have been trying to have a baby for 9 months now, right now it feels like every 1 step I take is 3 steps back for us. I was diagnosed with my first in 2006 I had to go to the ER because my cyst was twisting and almost burst I was in so much pain and it was the first time I was aware that I even had one. They operated on me to remove it the cyst was about 800gm I also lost one of my ovaries (left). In 2008 they found another cyst this one about 11 cm big on my right ovary they removed that too and left a portion of my ovary. Yesterday they found one 4 cm big, the buggers just don’t give up and keep persisting. Its definitely messing up my fertility, I had tests to see of I ovulate and I don’t, even though I get a period every month.

I don’t think I have ever been pregnant before so I’m not sure if the pain would get worse, but ovarian cysts grow mainly during the ovulation period so I think while your pregnant you don’t produce those hormones you should be ok? Well that’s the theory, the doctors don’t know why it happens, I get cramping around the middle of my cycle, I suspect its just the cyst growing or doing something sinister the evil b@stards!

The only thing that really helped was going on the pill which the doctors recommend you do if you have cysts (which doesn’t help when your trying to get pregnant!), when they operated on my second cyst it had shrunk from 11 cm to 9 cm after I had been on the pill for about 4 months, but because my tumour maker tests kept increasing they had to cut it out in case it was cancerous.

I hope you get your answers, I’m getting some of my answers they just aren’t what I want to hear! Right now I’m faced with whether or not to operate again or face a lifetime of fertility problems, but more surgery can also lead to more damage, it’s a tough one.

Hi jentre. I am sorry to hear about your cysts and how they are interfering. Mine have typically disappeared after a few weeks, but this past one went a few months. I am still not sure what happened this time. I can't imagine how much pain you were in! And tumor marker tests sound scary! I am about to start on IVF and part of that is going on bcp so I hope it settles things down. Of course I do have this fear a cyst could reemerge and threaten the whole IVF process.

I wish you luck in making your tough decisions. I am thinking of you and for you!

I too have had cysts on and off for about 10 years that I'm aware of. The first they removed b/c it got so large but found it was a simple cyst. In regards to if affecting fertility I too am quite confused. I am n the 2ww after femara, trigger and timed intercourse. On cd 12 had 2 follies on left (right seems to be retired)19 and 22. Triggered that day and timed intercourse following. around that same time began getting that stabbing pain on left ovary still there but I believe getting better. I too fear that I perhaps didn't o even with the trigger and got cysts instead. My ? is does anyone think that I could have still o'd one of the follicles and the second one formed the cyst? Probably grasping at straws i know.
