Goats Rue? Breastfeeding with PCOS/low milk supply

I have PCOS and encoutered problems with low milk supply.

I'm considering TTC again and want to do whatever I can to have a more successful breastfeeding relationship with our next child.

I've read that Goats Rue can increase mammary gland tissue in woman with PCOS who have had PCOS for years and through out puberty causing lack of mammary tissue.

Anyone use it? Did you start before you were pregnant, during pregnancy or after? Did you find you had success in increasing your milk making glands and creating more of a supply?

Would love to know what your experience was.

I have nursed 4 children successfully. try fenugreek tea and I ate old fashioned oatmeal not the quick cooking kind every morning. wish you the best of luck are you in your 40's? b/c if you are it doesn't make a difference, I had a good supply for my twins.

You definitely don't want to start using any herbs until you've had baby.

I haven't tried goat's rue, but I have used Breastea. My milk supply went from just being able to pump an ounce to being able to pump 4 to 5 ounces.

Definitely use a hospital grade breast pump. You can rent these and depending on why you are pumping etc your insurance might cover it.

I had low milk supply when I breastfed both my kids. I don't think I would have continued breastfeeding if I couldn't have got my milk supply up. Breastea was kind of a last shot for me. After I had my second child I immediately starting using it again while breastfeeding. It's very affordable and you order it online from breastea.com.

I was just recently diagnosed with pcos. I believe that's the reason why I had low milk supply. I had a miscarriage about a year ago as well, so I'm sure they are all tied in together.

Anyhow good luck! Breastfeeding has so many benefits.

I actually just turned 30.

With me it is a primary source. A lack of mammary tissue. Which is why I was looking into possibly taking goats rue that supposedly deals directly with that issue. I have my RE appointment on Nov 19th so I'll find out what they may think about starting the goats rue now or later.

With my son Logan My milk took a while to come in and even when it did it was a very low supply despite everything I tried. (Drinking lots of water, oatmeal, Fenugreek, blessed thistle, Motillum/Domperidone, and my last resort was Reglan). I breastfed exclusively, supplementing with a nursing supplementor at the breast as well as pumping or nursing every hour on the hour, to try and increase supply. The most I was able to pump from my right breast was usually 1/4th-1/2 ounce. From the left I'd get about 3/4oz to 1 1/2 oz. That was despite all my effort, herbs, pumping etc.

My hope is that before and during the pregnancy I can build as much mammory tissue as possible so that I can have the equipment (lol) to produce a bigger supply this time around.

I'd really like to talk with a lactiation consultant who specializes in this sort of thing but can't find anyone.

This is interesting. I wonder if that's what's wrong with me in regards to milk supply. I have always been very, very small chested. Unfortunately where I live, they really don't know that much about pcos and it's kind of trial and error. Do you know how to build up mammary tissue?

After the miscarriage, I don't know if I will ever try again. But if it's possible to build up the tissue that would definitely be useful in breastfeeding.
