I have nursed 4 children successfully. try fenugreek tea and I ate old fashioned oatmeal not the quick cooking kind every morning. wish you the best of luck are you in your 40's? b/c if you are it doesn't make a difference, I had a good supply for my twins.

You definitely don't want to start using any herbs until you've had baby.
I haven't tried goat's rue, but I have used Breastea. My milk supply went from just being able to pump an ounce to being able to pump 4 to 5 ounces. Definitely use a hospital grade breast pump. You can rent these and depending on why you are pumping etc your insurance might cover it. I had low milk supply when I breastfed both my kids. I don't think I would have continued breastfeeding if I couldn't have got my milk supply up. Breastea was kind of a last shot for me. After I had my second child I immediately starting using it again while breastfeeding. It's very affordable and you order it online from breastea.com. I was just recently diagnosed with pcos. I believe that's the reason why I had low milk supply. I had a miscarriage about a year ago as well, so I'm sure they are all tied in together. Anyhow good luck! Breastfeeding has so many benefits. |

I actually just turned 30.
With me it is a primary source. A lack of mammary tissue. Which is why I was looking into possibly taking goats rue that supposedly deals directly with that issue. I have my RE appointment on Nov 19th so I'll find out what they may think about starting the goats rue now or later. With my son Logan My milk took a while to come in and even when it did it was a very low supply despite everything I tried. (Drinking lots of water, oatmeal, Fenugreek, blessed thistle, Motillum/Domperidone, and my last resort was Reglan). I breastfed exclusively, supplementing with a nursing supplementor at the breast as well as pumping or nursing every hour on the hour, to try and increase supply. The most I was able to pump from my right breast was usually 1/4th-1/2 ounce. From the left I'd get about 3/4oz to 1 1/2 oz. That was despite all my effort, herbs, pumping etc. My hope is that before and during the pregnancy I can build as much mammory tissue as possible so that I can have the equipment (lol) to produce a bigger supply this time around. I'd really like to talk with a lactiation consultant who specializes in this sort of thing but can't find anyone.

This is interesting. I wonder if that's what's wrong with me in regards to milk supply. I have always been very, very small chested. Unfortunately where I live, they really don't know that much about pcos and it's kind of trial and error. Do you know how to build up mammary tissue?
After the miscarriage, I don't know if I will ever try again. But if it's possible to build up the tissue that would definitely be useful in breastfeeding. |
