Its so hard because BFNs are so disheartening. Did you feel yourself ovulate or do OPK's? I used to be a POAS junkie, but I will tell you that that incredible 2nd line makes all the BFNs sooo worth it. And if you are pregnant wouldnt you want to know so you can start enjoying it? Good luck!

You are not alone!!.. You should have your Doctor run some test to check for Endo, PCOS or Harmone problems....Since it's past your average the length of your cycle, you should test so if you are preggers you can start geting prenatal care. you are preggers!!

I used to have long cycles. When I was regular, they were 33-35 days. Then they started lengthening and it would be 2-2 1/2 months before the next AF. Many times I thought I was pregnant or could be, because I was so late and we were trying. That also made trying harder, esp because it was so long in between possible times to try. When they started hitting 2 1/2 months, I went to get checked out, and it turns out I wasn't ovulating at all. Prob hadn't been for a very long time. Eventually I got periods, but that didn't mean I was ovulating, apparently. OPKs looked positive to me sometimes, but not all of the cycles, and it's sometimes tough to tell a positive on those things. Clomid made me ovulate, but I didn't get pregnant on it. I responded very well to injectibles - the first full cycle took. Maybe you haven't been ovulating? And, if you're ovulating very late in the cycle, that's not good either. You need all of the hormone levels and the thickness of your uterine lining to all be in sync with each other, or the egg can't take. Any way to switch to a different insurance plan? Is it that they don't cover your specialist in particular? If your regular OB visits are covered, maybe your OB could order a lot of these tests and they would be covered? Just a thought. Maybe you've tried all of this and your insurance doesn't cover any of it, no matter what.

I can completely relate...
Hi,
My husband and I have been trying for almost a year for our first. For the last 5 months we have been using ovulation kits. I am ovulating on days 19, 21,22. From reading that is really late. Can I still get pregnant if I am ovulating late?? I was on the pill for 4 years and have been off since last November. We have taken advantage of those days every month but we are still not pregnanthttp://kona.kontera.com/javascript/l...rey_loader.gif . My cycles are fairly regular(28-33 days) and I am getting my period every month. Any advice would be great. I am not sure what to do. I am getting so frustrated and disappointed as the months go by. Any advice would be great. |

Are you working with your OB about this? From what I read, if you ovulate too late in the cycle, it's not conducive to getting pregnant. I believe it's a luteal phase defect. There is a lot doctors can do about it, but it's nothing you can do on your own without medical help. I'd start with my regular OB and move on to a specialist if the OB felt you needed it. If that's you only fertility issue, you may have a fairly easy time with it!

Thanks
Dear Wtnganother1:
Thanks for the reply. I have seen my OB but she said that she would not run any tests until we had been trying for a year. And then she said that she would send me to a specialist after a year of trying with no results. I would think that she could do some pre-screening like blood work or ultrasound?? kim |

Yes, she could do all of that. As for when to do that, I don't know. Some studies show that people "trying to get pregnant" really don't give it enough of a chance on their own. Their timing is off, or it just doesn't take for several months for whatever reason. This is assuming you have no big fertility issues stopping you from getting pregnant. But, if you're having issues with ovulation timing and your cycle length, I would think a doc would be willing to start some tests earlier, esp if you are a little older, but I don't know if you are or not. I would ask if she was willing to do it now. If she's not, is there a diff doc in the practice you could talk to?

I went to the doctor today. I am supposed to ovulate tomorrow. Since I am so close to ovulating she wanted to do a trans vaginal ultrasound to look at my ovaries and my lining. She said that my lining looked really good. I was worried about my lining b/c my period only lasts 2-3 days so I was afraid that I did not have a thick enough lining. She also said that there were eggs in my left ovary. She decided to give me a trigger shot to speed up ovulation. So they next 36 hours is our window
. She also gave me a prescription suppository of progesterone to use at night after ovulation. She said that the next step is to try clomid and then to test my husband. wtnganother1: I am 27 years old and my husband is 33. Do you know much about the trigger shot?? |

Hi Kim, I think you need to find a new doctor. A fertility specialist will tell you that with a period that short you are probabaly not ovulating(PCOS, POF, Annovulation, etc.) and just shedding the lining of your uterous. After this cycle is over(hopefully you will get a BFP), don't ask, DEMANED that she test both you and your husband. This seems to be a theme amongest the standard OB/GYN's. They want you to wait a full year with out running a simple blood panel. It happens often enough that the 1year of TTC is a simple waste of time. When a simple blood panel and sperm analaysis can tell you go ahead and try naturally for the year or be sent off to the infertility specialists. If I hadn't have told the fib "yes we have been trying for a year" I would just be coming up in(December) on the 1year TTC homework assignment from my OB/GYN. Needless to say I was reffered to the Fertility specialists. Lucky Me! It turns out there is NO CHANCE of natural conception for me now or in the future. I was/am in the early stages of POF(Premature Ovarian Failure-early menaopause). Yes I was 32 and still having pretty normal monthly periods. The RE said I was probably infertile for the 2 previous years. I told him that I would sometimes get a positive OPK. He said that sometimes you can have enough of the natural chemical that triggers egg release, but the eggs are not mature enough to be released from the ovary
. Long story short, my time is limited for getting pregnant, and I would have wasted a large part of that time in the Ob/GYN's "1 year of TTC". Be your on advocate, and DEMAND that the basic tests be run before you recieve any medication assistance.Sorry if anything is misspelled, I don't have the energy or patience to run spell-check tonight. Let us know how everything goes. Hopefully you get your BFP this month. |
