Help!

My husband has 3 children from a previous marriage that were conceived when he was between 19 and 27. He's now 50 and we've been trying to conceive. He had ejaculate tests done which he said when he came back from the doctor, were negative. I.e. no sperm at all. I have a feeling he's had a vasectomy and didn't tell me when we got together. Is it possible that he could have once been fertile and now isn't? Or has he had a vasectomy. I'm desperate for an answer.

take it from me - it is entirely possible to have been fertile earlier in life, and not at a later date, even without having a vasectomy. I am dealing with this hell as well.

That's great news. I did some research recently and thought that it wasn't possible that men could "lose" their fertility. Even after many years. He has sworn on my life, his life, and the life of my yet unborn nephew that he hasn't had a vasectomy but I found it hard to believe that you could just stop producing sperm.

There's also the fact that his ex wife had at least one affair, and we're not convinced the children were ever his!

Not to frighten you, but my BIL had a beautiful daughter, had trouble conceiving baby #2, and came to find out that he had zero sperm. This was how they detected a tumor on his pituitary gland. It was a blessing in disguise really.
They now have baby #2, a beautiful and healthy baby boy.
Greatest luck to you.

There are definitely ways men can lose their fertility over time. Aside from something like a tumor, or perhaps lowered testosterone as he's aged, it's possible it may be a blockage where he has some scar tissue in there that's keeping the sperm from getting out. Anything's possible. I hope this is something they can find a solution for.

I don't know your DH but I doubt he would lie about having a vasectomy since this would be easily detected by a urologist. And if he has had one done, they are reversible although that doesn't always work. However, my sister and I are living proof that they can work as my dad had a vas reversal when he married my mom. Good luck to you!!
