Newbie with Questions Galore!
This is my first post here. My husband and I have been TTC for 5 years now with just timing. We started rounds of testing this year. I tested positive/normal in all tests. My husband had one round of SA, which gave the following results:
Motility 20% Rapid 80% Non-Motile Volume: 2.2 Ml PH: 8 Viscosity: Normal Color: Grey-White Count: <1,000,000 Morphology: Unable to perform due to low count After seeing a urologist, we have been asked to visit a different/better lab for another 2 tests. I guess I don't want to get too hopeful, but I'm hoping that we can go the IUI route. Given these results (and these were after a 40 minute drive from home), is that even a possibility? My OB/GYN seemed to think that IVF would be the only solution, but my husband's urologist seemed confident that IUI might work. I'd rather believe the urologist, but again, I don't want to get hopes too high, because I don't think IVF would be possible in our current situation. Thank you for your thoughts/suggestions. |

I think we were told to shoot for a 30 min max between collection and drop off.
Additionally, you may find that his second results are better than the first. IUI is WAY cheaper than IVF, I would insist on at least a few trys with that before you go the IVF route. Quote:

TTCHOPEFUL: My DH had a low count, low morph and low motility. After a few tests the urologist wasn't confident on the IUI because he saw the numbers after a wash and they were not high enough. I have been told that after the wash numbers are the numbers that effect if you can do IUI or not. My DH's testosterone was just fine so the urologist did not want to try the clomid route for him.
I also have PCOS so we were told between the two problems that IVF was the best route. I would definitely go see an RE. Keep positive. ![]()

I'm not sure what you mean by RE. I've been to see an OB/GYN in the reproductive medicine department at our local hospital/clinic. The urologist that she recommended my husband to specializes in male infertility. He was actually more positive about my husband's results than my OB. She basically said that IVF is the only option given his first round of tests. The urologist said to keep trying and that IUI could still be an option.
Keeping my fingers crossed for next week and the two SA with a better lab! Thank you for the responses. |

IUI's can work. However, if you do not get pregnant after 3 cycles, I would suggest seeing an RE and thinking about IVF. Check too to see what the cost would be. It appears that IVF has a high success rate for SA issues, so there is hope in whatever course you pursue!
