Question Men and Meds to help things.

Got a question for everyone on men taking meds to help improve sperm more. My Dh seen a specialist today about his sperm problems an the specialist has taken 2 or 3 tubes of blood from him alone with urine testing. They are checking him for cancer an other things but the specialist said he has plenty of sperm the movement of the sperm is slow and at times the count goes down but my DH is a big guy an his weight maybe part of the problem due to keeping the ba**s a little to hot but he wanted to do bw to check everything out too. The specialist said we will know more in 2 to 3 weeks about his results but he said that he may try my DH on some meds to help.

What kind of meds will they put him on?

My poor DH got really sick after the bw due to not eatting for over 24hrs. I'm really scared due to cancer runs in his family. The specialist said he going to helps us get another baby somehow just have to a few things at a time. that all the bw comes back without any cancer in it.

Sly I know that some men have been put on vitamins or Clomid to help with the count. The good news is that he is actually making sperm...so that's a step in the right direction!!!Have faith! good luck

SlyFoxy-My DH had a zero count and they put him on Clomid 50mg everyday. After 1 month SA showed 26mil and after 2 months 195mil+ count and good quality. The bad thing in our case is once he stops Clomid we cannot try anymore because he goes back down to a zero count. They do not suggest men taking Clomid in this manner for more than 1 year, so we are really limited on the amount of time we can try. We may have to do some freezing if we want to continue on after that.

Hopefully your tests will come back fine and there can be something easily done to help with sperm issues.

My DH is already taking vitamins to help with his count but we will not know if his count has came up until maybe when go back to the specialist again and hopeing he will have us do another SA to see how things goes. I'm thinking of putting a cold wash cloth on Dh B***s at night to see if that will help with the count an movement. LOL.. We're trying anything to get things in order..

We can't wait to go back to specialist to see the results but I'm scared to death to.

His last SA his count was 12million but the movenment sluggist so hopeing we can get the movement back up again from 45% to 55%.

My Dh is ashamed of his weigh. but my Dh has always been heavy no matter what. He said to me he hates it but can't do anything about it ither. He's tried everything to loose it but the surgery bit is out of the question due to his sugar.

Chi-mom how often does your DH have to take Clomid? Reason asking if the doctor does put DH on that was wondering how long does he take it . Does he take it everyday or what?

Thanks

Good Luck to all of us..

SlyFoxy- My DH takes 50mg of Clomid everyday. He has been on it now for 3 months straight. It takes around 2-3 months to produce sperm, so his count now is normal. He has to take it continuously or his count will go back to zero. Some men have side affects similar to puberty (acne, irritability, ect) My husband is not having any real symptoms this go around. Years ago when he was on it he had skin issues. Our SA results are encouraging and we are hopeful that we will get lucky this time around.

Good luck to you, whatever the treatment

It isn't really as open and closed as you would like it to be. My first count was low, and most of the rest were all average (they do an analysis for every IUI). One low count is never a sign of something wrong.

There is a lot going on, between heat, stress, how often he EJ's, and my urologist said that half of the stuff out there is voodoo. I know this isn't what you want to hear but if he is average or close to average you might be better off just hanging tight.

Careful with meds, clomid created quite an emotional rodeo in our house when my wife was on it. I am glad I had read the side effects so I knew what to expect.

Chi-mom I wanted to say Thanks for answering my questions. That is a big help to us. If my DH has to go on that I hope he doesn't have no problems with the drug. We're that we get good news next week when go back to the doctor.

When we was doing IUI's and I was on the Clomid only side effects I had was some hot flashes long with a slight headache. Then later when we went to a new RE he put me on Femera and I didn't have near the side effects at all. Loved it. When I was on Femera I could tell it was working an I would have 4 follices instead of just one. So that was a plus.

I will give a update when get the results in next week. We will be going back out of town Friday Nov 13th to see the doctor so another 2 1/2 hour drive again but we get good news not anything bad.

arbuckle17 My DH count is always low and the movement at times is sluggist but the shapes of them are all normal.

His count would be anywhere's between 3 million or 12million not any higher than that of yet but since he is on some vitmens that is suppose to up his count. These counts are before the wash after the wash sometimes they are lower but this last time the count was up more but the movement was bad. We're that the specialist can help us with his problem. On my DH EJ he don't do it like others would do. We every 3 to 4 days since his count is low. We're going to use the cool wash cloth method as we''re told to do to see if will help things.

Good Luck to everyone trying to get a BFP. Will update later when find out the results.

Question Need More help.

Chi-mom when your Dh has low sperm count what was his testerone level?

Got some results in mail today and of what I can tell my Dh level is 196 which means his level is really low. The doctor of his left a note saying when go back he going to talk to him about starting him on Clomid.

Can you tell me how much a months of that would run??

If like to see results I can post to you here. Please if will help.

SlyFoxy- The blood work for that was done a LONG time ago. I do not remember the numbers, but I think it was on the lower side because other than that they could not figure out what was causing a near zero count. It was in the thousands before the Clomid and they considered it a zero on the SA. It was crazy. We thought, at the time our only hope would be donor sperm. Our Dr. decided to try him on the Clomid, but was not very confident. We were told some men have great results while others not so much. I'm not sure what makes the difference. It worked for my DH so well they were shocked. It took 2 months to get a decent count. We do not have to pay for those meds because my husband is in the military. I'm not sure what it would cost through a regular pharmacy. I'm sure it might be a bit, but I think Clomid is one of the cheaper drugs. I hope Clomid will work for your DH as well. I think it is worth a try.

btw- His early SA showed lower quality sperm, but the SA improved with the count. It might take several months to get a really good SA result.
