Totally ticked off, depressed, confused... I hate dr's

So monday night i come home from work and go to tinkle and i have a UTI, no big deal i get them once a month. (background, i have deep endo on my ureters and possibly inside my bladder, along with every other frickin place in my abdomen and pelvic region , Stage IV) So I have antibiotics my dr. gave me refills of in april when i had one so bad that i was tinkling blood and nothing was working to make it better. So I took one monday night, then i took one at work on tuesday morning at about 8 am. At about 10 am i start feeling lightheaded and faint and get the chills and a fever really bad. I call my boss to see if i can leave early then i call my urologist cause at this point i am thinking a kidney infection - I never get a fever with a UTI. I leave work at 1 and still the dr hasnt called back, i get home and lay down, and my husband comes home around 6:30 and my dr never called.

I call my mom, and she tells me i should go to the er, cause we are worried its my kidney, at this point i am having lower back pains as well. I get to the ER and they do a catscan on my kidneys, cause i told them about the endo on the ureter and how they are being monitored for blockage. this was after they had to do a pregnancy test of course, which i get to find out in the ER is negative, i am due for AF on saturday and as with every month i hold out hope. Then they bring me in the room and im waiting the dr comes in and starts feeling around my abdomen. then orders a pelvic exam. After he walks out to find a place to do it, i joke with my husband why it is that every dr i see wants to look inside me, is it the dr equivilent of shaking hands. So he does the pelvic exam and pushes on something, which looks to me like it was near my left ovary and i screamed it hurt so bad. He takes some samples of stuff and im done. An hour later he comes back and tells me i have PID!!!! how the hell does that happen??? He tells me however that they are waiting on bacteria cultures and to call ina couple of days to find out. They give me a shot of antibiotics and a prescription for two others and some ibuprofin and send me on my way -- at this point it is 1am.
So here i am today i guess two days later and i call the er to get my results and they tell me negative for gonneria and chlymidia which i knew, i am married and we dont stray. no chance for std. i could have told them that if they asked. and then she says it looks like just a UTI, where the heck did PID come from then.... grrrrr.

Ok so i got an appt with my regular gyn tomorrow, the one that did my last lap. Now here is what i am really concerned with. If it is PID, how did i get it? Could it be from an infection from the surgery, and if it is why wasnt it caught and it would explain why i havent gotten pregnant since the surgery cause it was supposed to increase my odds. The other thing is PID is a known cause of infertility, so has this now made it impossible? Has it taken a bad situation with the endometriosis and made it worse? I was very lucky that the endo had never affected my tubes but what if this has? and why if i am on the second day of antibiotics do i still have a high fever and still feel really really bad?

I can't find the article I once had with this information in it but I remember when I was diagnosed with endo I found some info on endometriosis increasing the chances of infections, including those without any symptoms, and other disorders of the lower abdomen. I think meeting with the RE that did your last lap would be really helpful!!!! Maybe your gyn can help a bit too! Good Luck, hope you start getting better soon!

Check this out:
eMedicine - Pelvic Inflammatory Disease : Article by Iris Reyes, MD

Here's a quote:
Background: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a spectrum of infections of the female genital tract that includes endometritis, salpingitis, tuboovarian abscess, and peritonitis.

Maybe in his infinite wisdom he was using the two terms interchangably........

Hope your feeling better!

It's possible to that you had bacterial vaginois, which often does not have symptoms. When you take the antiboitics for the UTIs it also destroys the healthy bacteria in the vagina. Which is why most docs given you a prescription for yeast infection meds along with the antibotics. The bacteria in your vagina may have grown out of control and moved it's way up. Which caused the PID. Don't freak out sit down and talk with your RE. They will be able to comfirm the PID with additonal test. Often times ER docs are busy and overwhelmed and don't take the time to examine all patients. Make sure you get a second opinion.

Thank you everyone for your hugs and replys, you have made me feel a little better. I at first was horribly freaked out about the diagnosis because the only time i had ever heard of PID was as a STD, believe me i was nasty to my husband until I called the for the results. I know he would never cheat but when they said that, it did cross my mind, so i was really trying to come to grips with how i could have gotten it otherwise. at lunchtime today i see my gyn and hopefully she will check stuff out, like why my ovary hurt when the dr. pushed on it. I am just so scared that there will be another thing affecting my infertility, as if the endo wasnt bad enough. I am also hopeful that this might explain why i havent gotten pregnant since the surgery. I am still feeling really bad. i still have a high fever and have the chills, I feel overall just under the weather and achy and nauseous. I have been at work yesterday and today cause i cant afford to take anymore time off, I just brought a brand new car and have a car payment now.

I too know nothing about PID but wanted to send you some . What an awful experience you are going through. I truly hope these doctors will be able to tell you what is going on. In the meantime, rest as much as you can and I will be your pain goes away.

Let us know how things go. I'm sure everything will be fine. I have a friend with extreme endo and she also was in the boat as you. Ended up with a PID and blamed her husband. Poor guy, he ended up getting screamed and yelled at right in the clinic. Turns out hers was from the endo... and everything is fine. But boy, did she feel terrible about bawling out her dh. We still laugh about it... at least it's funny to us, not to him!
