This is me and does anyone have any ideas?

Hi I'm new. I'm Kate and my DH is Martin we are 39 and 43. We have 4 grown children between us from 16 - 22 and then last year we conceived but mc in June. 2 weeks later we conceived again - Jacob - tragically Jacob was born sleeping in March this year, 37 weeks gestation, perfect, and 6lb 12 and a half ounces. But terribly tangled in the umbilical cord. Around his neck twice, over his face, down his back and around his feet. Our little man never stood a chance.
And now here we are desperate to bring a baby home. We have been trying for 6 months and so far no luck. I have been using a fertility monitor but about to stop that as it brings with it too much pressure to perform! However what I have found is that I ovulate late - my cycle is 28-31 days and i seem to ovulate around 21 - 23. So a problem with my luteal phase it seems, today I have started B6 to see if that helps, and next month I have an appointment with my consultant who I think will prescribe clomid.

So my questions - last month i had my bloods done and on cd25 my progesterone level was 59. I know that means i definately ovulated but is it good or just ok?

And also does anyone have any experience of concieving and carrying to term a baby while suffering from a short LP?

Any suggestions, help, advice would be great.

It feels like my time is running out and the desperation is so so great.

Many thanks
Kate

Hi Kate - welcome to the Forum!! I don't have any answers to your questions about progesterone levels or luteal phase, but I'm sure someone will have that information for you. This is a great place for advice and support, and I hope you get the answers that you need.

Welcome!

I am so sorry for your losses. I can't even begin to imagine how hard this must be for you and your DH. You have certianly come to the right place for help and support. Folks here are just great!

I don't have lots of answers but I know that a progesterone level of anything over 20 is good and I've never had over 30 personally so I would think that you are in really good shape as far as that is concerned. Others might know more.

hi

Hi kate and welcome. I am relatively new here too. I am so sorry about the loss you suffered. I am sure there are no words for what you went through and I hope you will get to bring the baby home you want. As for short LP and progesterone, that is my problem also, that I did not have with my other 2 kids. They found it when i had a miscarriage in may. As for your progesterone I am not sure because of when they tested. Mine is only 8 on cd 22 or so but I have very short cycles. I am not positive about your number because i have always heard they need to test 7 dpo which is not when yours was done right? Mine actually does 10 dpo but I am not sure that is the right thing to be doing. someone posted a chart for me somewhere of the ranges at certain times of the month I will see if i can find it for you. For the short LP, some docs do progesterone (oral, suppositories, gel or injections) and some do clomid and progesterone both i think. Mine so far has only done progesterone but so far it hasnt' worked for me. I am seeing an RE later this month and hoping maybe they will try clomid for me. Let us know what happens at your appointment... it is my understanding that ideally LP should be 12 days (mine is generally 11 but with spotting the last 3 or so of those days) or some docs say 10 is enough but less than 10 is not enough.

Luteal 3.3-25.6 (during ovulation and right after)
Mid Luteal 4.4-28.0 (about a 1 1/2 weeks after O)

Florence, I am so very sorry for your loss. I have a short LP as well. Clomid did not work for me in terms of extended LP but it did stimulate more follicles. The RE prescribed prog supp which has extended it, though no BFP to report.

Welcome Kate to the forum. I'm so sorry to hear of your two losses. I can only imagine how heartbreaking it's been for you guys. I definitely think that you need to meet with the consultant to determine how to correct your luteal phase, my mom had this issue as well and it took her 6 years to conceive my brother after having me. Clomid can help to correct your cycle and that probably is where they will start. I don't know anything about the progesterone levels so I can't speak on that topic for you. But I want to wish you the best as you continue towards seeing your dreams come true.
