Progesterone Suppository?

Hi Ladies.
I am supposed to start progesterone suppository tomorrow morning, twice a day (vaginally).

- Has anyone taken these?
- Is there a trick how to insert them?
- How long do you need to lay on the bed?
- Shall I insert them before or after the shower in the morning?
- How about BD while on suppositories?
- Any s/e?

I know very little about these, so any help would be fantastic!

Thanks ladies!

Hugs,

Hi...
i have done them. Are you doing the actual suppositories or are you doing Prometirum but vaginally? I have done both. lucky me.

- Is there a trick how to insert them? for the supps they gave me a thing to insert them but with both i ended up just using my finger
- How long do you need to lay on the bed? I heard 20 min but i try to do an hour

- Shall I insert them before or after the shower in the morning? I wake up and do it an hour before getting up in the morning...
- How about BD while on suppositories? fine but do it before putting in suppository
- Any s/e? tiredness, peeing a bit more, irritability

good luck

- Has anyone taken these? Yup
- Is there a trick how to insert them? Nope, insert them like a tampon
- How long do you need to lay on the bed? I didn't--just went about my day.
- Shall I insert them before or after the shower in the morning? Definitely after the shower
- How about BD while on suppositories? I didn't-I'd ask your doctor about that one.
- Any s/e? Progesterone can bloat you, make you nauseous, give you sore boobies, etc...

thunder - good luck with the suppositories!

just to add to the other ladies what my RE suggested:

- Has anyone taken these? yes
- Is there a trick how to insert them? unfortunately, the fingers work best
- How long do you need to lay on the bed? my RE never said anything about laying in bed, but said to wear a pad and have an extra to change out after your first pee after insertion (which should try to hold for at least 1.5 hours after insertion)
- Shall I insert them before or after the shower in the morning? my RE said it was best to do after, as you have had a chance to get cleaned up from the prior night supp leakage
- How about BD while on suppositories? as long as it was before insertion
- Any s/e? sore boobs and a yeast infection

i asked to go back onto the PIO - it was much more friendlier and reliabel dose of progesterone.

good luck!!!!

Even though the RE said to use them during the day, I didn't want to deal with the mess all day, so I just did them at night before bed.

My doc said that once I get my BFP, I will start taking prometrium vaginally. This thread has been helpful. Thanks ladies.

Thanks ladies! You are the best!
I did the first doze this morning and it went ok. I noticed the oily stuff when I went to pee a few hours later. Gross!

I went to the basement to get them out of the fridge (half asleep). I got one of the things out, went back upstairs, washed my hands again, pulled the red cap off, stuck it in, and went back to bed. My DH was laughing at me. I was sooo sleepy! So, I slept for another hour and a half and then got up to get ready for work.

I told DH we need to bring the little fridge from the basement up into our room so I don't have to go all the way down there!
hahahahah

But so far, I don't feel any different, so no s/e as of yet from progesterone suppositories.

Thank you all for your advise.
Hugs,

Smile Progesterone Suppositories

Hi everyone,
I've been inserting them for a week. My breasts are very sore, my nipples are big, and I feel very tired all the time. My dr. prescribed the suppositories after my IUI. I don't know if these symptoms are due to pregnancy or to the suppositories. As much as I want them to be due to preg., I think it's too early to ahve them. I know that my concerns have already been discussed in this forum, but I had to let it out. I am so anxious. I'm supposed to know on Nov. 2 if I am pregnant or not. Thanks for any words you might write to me...

I too have been put on progesterone twice a day by RE. Following last months IUI, AF came 5 days early! I had left over folicles from last months injections and failed back to back IUI's. So this month we had to take a break from injections and just try on our own, however incorporated the progesterone to hold off AF. Keeping fingers crossed. Still have about a week and a half to go. question though...RE didnt say anything about laying down afterwards. Do most say so and why? i take the night one right before bed so I am good as far as that is concerned but morning one is right after shower once I am up.

Basically you insert them as far in as they will go. It helps to lie on the bed but it's not required. I found that I needed a pantie-liner as they were messy. There were no side effects from the suppositories for me. When I took oral progesterone there were.

In the same boat...

Hi... here is a little background...

Nov. 2005 had an ectopic. Started trying again after 3 months and got preg. July 2006. Gave birth to a healthy baby girl April 2007. Since then we have been trying for another. I got preg. last Dec., but ended up having a mis. (Doctor though it was another ectopic, so I had chemo shots right after my Mom died of breast cancer... not fun at all). Then we got preg. in Aug 2009 and had another mis. My doctor finally did the test and I have a low positive for clotting, so I am on baby asp. He has also put me on the prog. sup. and clomid. I don't understand why I had a "regular" preg. with my daughter only to find this out. I am hoping and praying it works this month. It is nice to hear that others are having the same trouble. You kind of feel alone when all your friends are getting preg. so fast!
