I've been MIA this past month since we took a break and found a new and better RE. Once my next cycle starts, we will do another IUI with injectables. $3200!! Holy cost batman! But you can't put a price on baby right?

Have you thought about ordering your medicine from overseas? My RE called it in to IVFmeds and it was sent from London. Instead of $60 a vial for Repronex (generic), it was only $13 a vial. I would have never thought of it, but my RE suggested it. The only drawback is that it takes about 2 weeks to get the medicine, so we had to sit out a cycle as a result. Good luck!

Oh thanks texas! I never would have thought but I'll definitely bring up the idea to my doctor. We don't mind sitting out a cycle.

Violet, I assume you don't have insurance and that is why this IUI is so high, but there is also and alternative to buying overseas if you don't want to wait 2 weeks for the meds. I wanted to save some $ on my injectables instead of going with my insurance covering 50%. I bought 2 boxes of Menopur online from www.sharedjouney.com. It's a site with gals selling their unused fertility meds that they no longer need. Check it out. I'm sure that you can find just what you are looking for at a great price.

BTW, what exactly is the breakdown of the charges? $3200 sounds very high for one round an IUI.

Mindi, thanks for the tip. Our insurance only covers diagnosis but not the treatment. Grrrrr! If I remember correctly, it's about $1300 for meds (he wants to do combo letrozole and then fsh injections) and $1900 for the IUI itself. Does that sound reasonable?

OMG! Adrina that is absolutely not reasonable at all. Even if I didn't have insurance to cover 50% of everything, the cost of just an IUI is only $250. A sperm wash is only $150 and an u/s is only $140. You get one u/s on cd3 before you start your meds and then you get another u/s the day after your last injection to make sure you have good size follies. So, just for the IUI it would be around $680. Clomid is about $50 without insurance and injectables are around $64 per vial. You probably will only need 5 vials to start with since this is your first time on injectables and your RE will want to check on how you reacted on 75iu per day. I calculate that to be $320. So, if you add all those up together you are talking $1050 for the entire prodecure with meds. Did you ask the clinic manager to show you a break down of all their charges? I get a price sheet with everytime I pay for a visit. I could fax a copy of my clinic's prices to you if yould like, or I can scan it and email it to you.
I would check out other clinics in your area to see what they charge. I would be more than happy to do some research for you to find a great affordable clinic in your area. Let me know.

It seriously made my mouth drop as well. I switched to this doctor because I didn't appreciate the lack of aggressive treatment due to my age at my other RE but yeah, my previous IUI's were only $600 (clomid only).

Sperm wash $150
IUI $150
Meds- $70 (clomid & prometrium)

I found some receipts from my previous IUIs (previous doctor too) and the actual procedure only cost $250. So I don't know where this doctor's office is getting their numbers but I will be calling them next week.

I just paid 5000$ (!) for our inj/IUI cycle

OMG! That is sooooo outrageous! For a few thousand more you could have done IVF, which has a higher rate of success compared to the IUI. For that amount your RE should guarante that you will be pregnant! If this IUI doesn't work (which I hope it does) I'd do some searching around for a clinic that has isn't so outlandishly expensive.

My costs for IUI are about the same as yours voiletfemme. Meds are $1000-$1500 per month and IUI is $1850 per cycle, but includes sperm wash, iui, blood tests, all u/s (about 4) and beta test. My insurance only covers diagnosis also. Are you in CA? I am in Southern CA.
