When did you move onto injectables

Hi girls,

Just wondering when your RE to prescribe injectables for you. I have not had luck on 4 clomid cycles and am on my 2nd femara cycle. They have suggested moving to injectable casually, but seem happy to stick with the pills for now.

I have no problem paying for the injections (and would almost prefer it, as the success rates are quite good and I would have more than 1 follie likely), but just wonder if that's how most REs do it.

Thanks a bunch! I've learned so much from this site!!

My RE gave us the option right away at our first appointment. We have about a 7% chance of getting pregnant with Clomid and BD or IUI. But we have an 18% chance with Clomid, Injectibles, Trigger and IUI. I guess because we have slight male issues he encouraged the injectibles. If you have already had 4 failed cycles I would say injectibles FOR SURE! I think if you were to express interest in it they would be willing. Unless your Dr. is super cautious. It does get a little expensive with all the monitoring but it's do-able.

Good Luck with whatever you choose!

I would DEFINITLY move onto injectables, you have more than double the success rate and they really aren't that bad. I too did 4 cycles of clomid with no luck but did get pregnant on all three rounds of injects (2 out of 3 m/c'd). If money isn't an issue, go for it girl! Goodluck and loads of

I was put on a combination of Clomid and injectibles after one failed Clomid only cycle. But than again I have a diagnosed condition (PCOS), and from your sig I see you only have some "irregular cycles" (unexplained?), so maybe that's why your dr. hopes that the pills will finally work. I did not ovulate on Clomid alone at all, and with injectibles I did develop some follicles.

Just starting follistim next cycle

I'm new on this forum. Don't know what all the abbreviations so I apologize in advance for all of my complete words.
We did 6 cycles of clomid, once last year, and then this year. This was with my OBGYN. He wanted to try one more cycle with a higher dose but we decided to move on to an RE. Progesterone level never showed ovulation.
My AMH was .8. The RE basically said that our only good options were injectibles or IVF. We are starting with Follistim, antigon, ovidrel, progesterone. We went to the class today that went over all the paperwork and showed us how to use the various syringes.
I'm rather freaked out by the whole thing and about decided to call the whole thing off. DH said we can put it off or call it off if I want. I need to call the pharmacy back on Monday if we're going through with it, so anyway.
Good luck! I hope it goes well for you.

My doc laid it out there from the beginning. We did 3 rounds Clomid and 3 rounds Letrozole. I believe if you move to Injectibles + IUI, it increases your chances to around 10%. Though I don't buy into the stats...it worked on our first try. Best of luck!

Wow, thanks so much for all your help!

I am going to focus on this cycle and hope and pray that it works. But I'm definitely going to ask about injectables for next time (if we need to go down that road). I don't mind the cost or the physical injections, so it makes sense to me.

For the PCOS diagnosis, they really don't know. I'm normal weight, have none of the signs of it, and my ovaries look normal. But my cycles are usually around 34 days and can vary from 28 to 42! I forgot to mention in my sig, but I'm also on Metformin 750 mg 2x/day because they are not sure if I have PCOS or not. That's also kind of the reason that I pushed for the femara, as it can be quite helpful with PCOS. I still am not sure I ever ovulated on the clomid...

Thanks again for all your help! Lots of to everyone here who's trying and to all the pregnant ladies!

Hey! I only did one round of clomid before my RE moved onto injectibles. I have no diagnosed problems but I did not respond to clomid as quickly as they would have liked me to even though I did get a BFP during the one and only cycle but had a m/c at 6 weeks. I am currently on a forced break due to cysts from the injectibles but I am confident I'll get my BFP sometime soon because the Bravelle created a whole bunch of follies! Good Luck!!

4 failed cycles of Clomid, at increasing doses. She said I could try 200mg or move on to injections. As I was certain Clomid wasn't my thing, I went for the injections (despite my huge needle fear and the cost!). You can see details in my signature.

I did 4 rounds of CLomid with the regular OB, then went to the specialist. I did 5 rounds with him at the correct dosage and knew I ovulated those times. He had said that most women that get pregnant on Clomid get pregnant in the first 6 months, so most doctors won't let you stay on it longer than that. After my 5 months, I asked for "the next step", which was injectibles. He had mentioned them to me in an earlier visit as a possibility, and I was finally ready to give myself the shots. Good luck!
