Triggered, no ovulation?

I'm so confused.

After 2 weeks of follistim injections, I had 4 big follicles. We triggered sunday and did timed intercourse sunday/monday/tuesday. On friday, u/s and bloodwork.

U/s showed no more big follicles - only ones around 10mm, with one 14mm. Bloodwork showed progesterone under 1.

So..the nurse says I didn't ovulate.

I don't understand what happened and the nurse just said it was "puzzling." How could I not ovulate with an hcg trigger shot, and where did my follicles go?

So confused and upset

Were they measuring you estrogen levels? I think those give clues as to whether these are viable follicles still growing. I had one cycle (when I was on Clomid) where I had two follies that looked like they were growing...and then suddenly stopped! And the estrogen dropped dramatically, so the doctor knew it was going to happen.

I don't know how big the nonviable ones get -- how big were your 4 big ones?

Yeah, they were following my estrogen and it was rising well. The biggest was 17 at last u/s - I triggered 3 days later.

That's odd. It is VERY rare not to ovulate from the triggers. There was no evidence of a collapsed follicle from ovulation on the u/s? Have you spoken to a doctor?

They didn't say anything about collapsed follicles, so I don't know I haven't talked to my doctor yet - just his nurse. I'm calling him tomorrow.

I was just wondering, my doctor usually says I'm ready to trigger around 18mm. I'm surprised that you had a follicle at 17 and they told you to wait 3 days to trigger. I know every doctor-patient has her/his own protocol, but given how fast those follies can grow, it just seems odd to wait that long with a 17. I'm sure there was a reason -- ask your doctor about that too.

That one I know - my 3 trailing follicles were smaller, and I'm pretty sure we were sacrificing the big one to get the slightly smaller ones up there.

I had this same question. This is our first IUI with injectible cycle. I went in on cd9 and had one foolicle at 18mm. That was on a Friday, and I was out of town on Saturday, so they told me to trigger on Sunday evening, and then come in on Monday morning. They gave me an u/s first, and I had not ovulated yet- my follicle was now at 22. So I came back that afternoon for an IUI. I went in today, CD15, 3 days after IUI, for an u/s, and the nurse said she couldn't tell if I ovulated. I will have a progesterone check on Monday to see if I did in fact ovulate. I thought the trigger shot pretty much made you ovulate.

I thought so too, but but based on progesterone they didn't think I ovulated..and they were right; AF started 14 days post trigger, and the day before that I got
