Ovidrel shot

Hi Gals.
I just started my first IUI cycle and have my next U/S on Monday (11/5) before I can take the ovidrel shot.

My questions are:
- Did you guys have the dr do it, or you did it yourself?
- Did you have any side-effects?
- Dr told me to inject it into belly (around belly-button). Is that the same for all you gals?

Thanks.

I did an ovidrel trigger with my last IUI. It was really a piece of cake and no big deal. I was so afraid it was going to hurt and I just couldn't let myself do it. So I went to my parents house and made my dad do it. He had gastric bypass surgery the year prior to and was a pro by then of giving shots in the stomach. I threw such a fit even covering my face with a pillow and squeezing my mom's hands....I didn't even know he'd done it that's how easy it is. I had no side effects, didn't feel a thing! I was told to go an inch to either side of my belly button or below it. We pinched an inch and went below my belly button. I hope this helps and best of luck to you!

I gave mine in my stomach. He really didn't hurt at all. I was prepared for the worst and so nervous!!! Within the next couple of days I could feel myself ovulationg. Slight cramps on either side I know it was the eggs being released. Good Luck it really isn't that bad.

I will be starting my second meidicated IUI so soon I will be joining you this time I may know what to expect and hopefully won't be so nervous. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks gals. I am just a little nervous because I've never done it. I think I will have my DH do it for me. As clumsy as I am, I might mess it up (hihihi). I am going to the U/S on Monday to see where I am and if I am ready for the ovidrel shot. I think I just need to go through the first cycle, experience everything, and then after that should be a little easier. But, I am hoping this is it. hiih

Heart

Hi, I had my ovidrel shot on friday. The nurse at the clinic did it for me and it was really easy. Last month I used Pregnyl and my husband gave it to me, (I'm too scared to inject myself!), it hurt so bad that I burst out crying and almost made him cry! but like I said, this month I opted to pay for the ovidrel out of pocket and it was sooooooo much easier! The nurse said that with the ovidrel shot, when they make it, some of the silicone cooating wears off the needle so it doesn't slide in as smoothly but if you jab it in firmly (not too hard!) most people are fine with it. I didn't notice, I still thought pregnyl was much worse! I don't know if they make them the same way over there (I'm from Australia), but I thought it might help to let you know. Best of luck!

I had mine at the dr"s office. I was there for an u/s and figured I might as well get my money's worth since we are paying out of pocket for everything.

I went in this morning for an u/s and I had a large follicle so the doc wanted me to do Ovidrel today and do the IUI tomorrow. The nurse made me do it myself, because she said I needed to see how it was done. Seriously I was about to cry, pass out and throw up at the same time. Once it was done it was not that bad at all. Wish me luck tomorrow.

Can someone clear up for me how long the Ovidrel stays in your system? My RE said I had to wait 16 days until after the Ovidrel was given before I could test because it would still be in my system. But I've read other posts where people test earlier than that. I trust my RE but I"m just curious what you all have been told.

Women metabolize it differently but 10 days is what most of us have been told. I found it stays in my system for about 6-7 days.

The Ovidrel shot really doesn't hurt at all. If you can stand having blood drawn, you should be fine. I did mine myself (there was no way I was letting DH at me with a needle at 7:30am.. or probably ever) and I felt some pressure but that's about it. If you're worried about it hurting, ice the area for about 5-10 minutes beforehand and you shouldn't feel a thing. I promise, once you do it, you'll think you were pretty silly for getting so worked up over it.. I know I did. Best of luck to you.
