Question about coverage...

It looks like my insurance covers diagnostic stuff only, and whatever needs to be done to correct the infertility, but it will not cover anything to HELP get pregnant. I assume this means it will not cover IUI's, but may cover some visits to an RE to do a S.A., and any bloodwork I may need. Is there anyone out there that can tell me how much a visit to the RE is without insurance (in general), and how much an IUI may be? I have 1 cycle left of clomid (if I don't get my BFP this month), and then I will have to go to an RE, or try naturally. Any help would be appreciated.

The insurance I had from DH's work only covered diagnostics. They did pay for the RE consult, which was like $250 or something. Actually, they paid for 2 since I went to 2 different doctors. The SA was covered, as was my first CD3 u/s and b/w because that was for diagnostic purposes. Karyotyping was covered. Immune testing and blood disorder testing was covered, but genetic testing (CF) was not.

My IUI was $300-$150 for the sperm separation, $150 for the procedure. I also had 2 u/s that were $160 each. B/w is not necessary, but a P4 could run you $110 if you do it.

I would call your insurance and get IN WRITING what they cover. My RE's office did not file with insurance, so we had to do that and it was a pain in the butt. We had to prepay at the RE office, and when the insurance finally paid, they sent the money to the RE's office, not us. Took forever to get it back.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I'm guessing that is probably pretty standard. It's good to have a ball park figure, but of course it stresses me out. I'm not sure how many cycles we could do. I wonder if my HRA account with my work (I get $2100 a year towards healthcare/copayments/prescriptions, etc) would go towards any of that? I'm trying to figure that part out, but it's always a hassle to deal with insurance (as many of you know).

Thank you so much for your response. It was very helpful.
