Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO (Illinois)--Accenture

Hi! I am new to the site and need some help. Can anyone explain to me what a preauthorization is and what exactly does that mean with coverage. My company does cover IVF however, you need a preauthorization. I dont know what there exclusions are for IVF, if any. Are they asking questions such as if there has been any sterilization or things of that nature, or reasons to deny the coverage? Can someone please help me and clarify, I would appreicate it. Or if anyone knows about UHC with Accenture. Thanks

I have blue cross blue shield. I also needed pre-authorization. It basically means that your ob/gyn have to call and go over some information with them. At that point, they will he/she the authorization pin for the fertility clinic to put on the bill. If you to fertility institute before getting the authorization they won't pay for anything.

Hi there - just wondering if you got your authorization from BCBS. I am also waiting for an authorization. I understand the process but am just wondering what situations they might deny the auth.

Insurance

I have the same exact insurance and pretty much, the podedure is covered as long as they get a letter from your doctor stating that you cannot concieve any other way. Your out of pocket may be around $1200 compared to the cost of $12000. They do only cover InVitro 4 times in a lifetime.

Infertility treatment is covered in Illinois b/c it is mandated by the state. I live in Illinois and had to get preauthorization. Basically you go to your PCP or OB/GYN and they have to refer you to a reproductive endocrinologist. After you have your referral, you go to the RE who may run some tests and will review your history and then they have to fill out some paperwork and get an authorization from the insurance company. The authorization in my case (and I'm assuming in most cases) is good for 1 year (and it can be renewed) and it basically covers everything related to infertility treatment - including 4 retrievals (IVF) for a 1st child and 2 for a second. This allows for additional frozen transfers.

The important thing to know is that infertility in the state of Illinois is defined as 1 year of unprotected intercouse without getting pregnant (or something to that effect). So very important that you tell the RE that you've been trying for over a year. I went when we'd only been trying for 6 months and was denied until my RE changed my paperwork.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me. I've been through it all with insurance...pain in the butt, but WELL worth it once you get the authorization.
