I had a discussion with my RE this morning and I think I have made up my mind that if this cycle (I'm on CD3) does not work - always praying each month that it does work, of course - but if it doesn't, I will be finding a new RE. My 1st iui round on 50mg of Clomid, my RE told me that I am responding "too well" to the meds and she thinks it may be hurting me instead of helping me get pregnant so she lowered me to 25mg of Clomid on my 2nd iui. Again, in June, she said I responded "too well" on 25mg of Clomid and that I may be her 1st patient to give the lowest dosage of clomid to. Then she made the remark that she may have me do a cycle of iui without any clomid which I was open to trying. Since I have been with this RE, she has made the remarks about how she is scared I will get pregnant with multiples which I would immediately tell her that I would be happy no matter how many babies I get pregnant with. By her making that comment along with saying how I produce so many follicles (3 -which I have seen girls on here producing many more than that) leads me to think she may be purposely inseminating me wrong because she has that fear. So then this morning when I was talking to her she tells me that she is going to put me on 25mg of clomid again. So I mentioned what she had said in June about lowering my dosage of clomid or doing a natural iui, she responded that my last cycle was perfect and there would be no reason for that (she acted as if she never said anything about lowering my dosage or no dosage). Before, I would have been happy with staying with the 25mg of Clomid but I read up on it and my RE has mentioned it before that it can prevent your lining from getting as thick which isn't good. Plus, she tells me that my Estrogen was 2500 on 50mg and 1700 on 25mg, so I asked her what the norm is and she said 250-300. Hello? Isn't clomid going to do the same thing again? Can a high estrogen level prevent me from getting prenant?? I just feel clueless and confused. Then I mentioned a Lap because I have read that girls have had this done when they had unexplained infertility and it showed cysts, etc that didn't show up on the u/s. She said that her office doesn't do them anymore unless the woman has a history of menstrual problems, etc. And then she makes the remark, "plus, we don't need laps performed anymore because we have IVF to turn to." I was so annoyed. A lot of people can't afford IVF (including myself) so that is not an option for us. Grrr. Sorry this is so long, I just feel confused. I want to go through with this cycle and find a new RE next month but at the same time, I am thinking I should cancel this cycle and look for a new RE now.... any suggestions? Either way I guess I am going to have to miss a cycle

I am sorry I do not have any answers for you. It does sound a little weird...maybe she is not writing notes? Hmm....I do think a second opinion (with copies of your file in hand) certainly would not hurt. As far as this cycle goes, you have to make that decision. I would do whatever makes you comfortable. I wish you the best of luck in this cycle (or the next!) Keep us posted.

My doctor pushed and pushed with clomid for 6 cycles of iui because (I believe) that was the only drug he was familiar with. I stayed with him because I had a son via iui previously under his care. By the way I ovulated fine on my own...we were using a donor and were hoping to increase our odds with more than one follicle. After the 6 attempts on clomid (degraded lining, down to one follicle per cycle) the doctor immediately thought we should go to IVF. Instead, I found an RE through a friend. That round I did femara and follistim. My lining was right on, etc. The other thing about it was that EVERYTHING was different about the new doctor down to the customer service in his office, the amount of information I was given, the thoroughness of the testing...I felt like I was in better hands instantly. You might should consider a new doctor. You should feel like you are being dealt with by a competent AND listening person.

Thanks for the responses. I have decided just to continue with this cycle and if it doesn't work than move to a new RE.

I found another RE online that is based out of my local hospital. Their website is very informative and they even have testimonials. I may check them out next. I ended up at the RE I am at now because I have this thing where I only want woman doctors but I think I am going to have to get over that because there aren't many all woman offices out there.

Donna- I used to have the feeling that I only wanted to have a woman dr and when my ob referred me to my RE, there were all men RE's. At first I was a little hesitant, however, I really like my RE's. There are 4 in the practice and I like 3 of the 4.

Just put it in perspective, if a male re can help get you , then I would go full force! Geez, if a monkey RE could help get me , I would have had an appt yesterday, lol!

I hope this cycle works and you won't have to worry about it! If you do start looking, a suggestion is to start a thread here and on the IVF board with suggestions for REs in your area. Not sure where you are, but it might help. You might get some one on one insight. Just an idea.

I know exactly how you feel. I am not liking my RE either. I think that if you find an RE that you can talk to and feel like you can trust, that is all that matters. My current RE can't even remember my name or how many times I've been in for an IUI. Literally on my 6th time, he asked if it was my first. How hard is it to look at a chart?!?! So, like you...if this time doesn't work...I'm off to find me a new RE with a brain!!! Good luck...hopefully we'll get and won't even have to worry about!!

I'm sorry you feel like you're not getting everything you deserve out of that doctor. I think your decision to find a new one is the best.

As far as your high E2 numbers go, it might be due to some other medication you're on (if you're on any). Some meds hinder your liver from metabolizing estrogen the way it should. This happened to me in April. I was on an injectable protocol and my numbers skyrocketed to over 10,000 and we had to cancel the IUI. The other med I was on was Prozac, and my therapist is the one who pointed out the metabolizing estrogen thing. I immediately got off of it and within six weeks, I was back to normal. Just a thought.

Siren - I'm with you. Whoever can get me pregnant, I'm there! I am getting over that male RE thing quickly in my mind after reading the testimonials on that one RE's website.

AmyK- thanks for the suggestion of posting to get a referral. That is a good idea!

MerryX- Hopefully we both get our BFPs and won't have to worry about changing REs.

Gina- the only other medicine I am on right now is an allergy pill which I can't imagine that having anything to do with it. Do you think it could? I will have to try and find some info online.
