Trying to be happy for her

So last night DH & I went to dinner w/our very good friends. They announced that she's expecting... and it was only the second month they were trying. I am so happy for them but it also breaks my heart since we're still going through so mich with IF. They do deserve a baby- they have been together for 20 years (since she was 16). They are financially secure and will be fantastic parents.

I guess I'm just jealous/envious whatever you want to call it. I'm so happy yet to watch her go through this wanting my own so much is going to be hard. Does anyone have any helpful advice?

That's a tough one. Does she know about your IF stuff? If not, now might be a good time to tell her Hard as it may be, you have to remember that you are her friend and that this is a happy time in her life and she wants to share it with you. Just get it out in the open what is to happen if you get a "sad attack" as I like to call them. If you are around her and suddenly tear up and need to run into the other room, your friend should know whether she is to run after you and cry with you or just leave you alone...that would depend on your personality. (I personally don't like group crying sessions, I like to be alone.) If she is a good friend, you are going to want to tell her all about your when it is your time, so you should make sure you stay as close as you've been all along.

I don't really have a lot of close friends locally because the military moves me so darn much. I do have a pretty close friend though who got pregnant about the same time DH and I really started trying, tracking cycles and such. Her daughter will be two next month, and I am the only person who has ever babysat her. I think some people view my situation as "ready for children, don't have the obligations of having her own yet" i.e....perfect babysitter. I watch a lot of my friends' children, and I am ok with that. I avoided them at first, but realized that voluntarily being sad is not making my life any better. I love children, and even though they are not mine, just being around them makes me happy.

Hang in there girl, your time is coming!

Thanks for the encouragement. They do know about the IF thing, and were very careful in how they told us. We both managed brave faces and smiles and hugs and I've promised her a baby shower. Which I will do and will have fun with. What's hard is that this is the first time DH has cried when we learned about a friends impending arrival, so I know the frustration is really building on him.

I really am excited for them. We've been friends since our first week at college so there is a lot of history there. The four of us even went to Kauai together in April.

I'm also trying to keep positive in that it's only been 2 months since we found out my progesterone is too low to have implantation on my own (everything else looks good) so it's almost like we're starting over in our trying. And I'm ovulating this weekend so maybe THIS will be our month.

Did I mention that if my IUI took last month we'd have the same due date?

Oh gosh, I know the feeling....My half sister, who is 10 years younger than me and married less than a year, called me with her big splashy announcement. I faked so happy and got off the phone and cried my eyes out. I felt like someone just kicked me in the stomach. At the same time, I felt like a total jerk for feeling the way I did. It is so nice to read this forum and know that we are all going through the same kind of feelings and reactions.
BTW, we are on the exact same cycle day!
