Follistim or Gonal F

My DH and I are on a rest this cycle thanks to the cysts I developed last month. My RE said no more clomid and all injections next month. I have a choice which one I want to be use and I wanted to know if there is any difference, or anyone had a opinion as to which one may be better than the other?

Hi there,
I'm kind of surprised that your RE is giving you a choice between the two! For some reason it seems like each RE has an individual preference, and that's what they go with. Did your doc explain to you what the differences are? I don't know for sure, but I think they are the same med but made by different manufacturers. So I think it doesn't really matter, they both do the same thing!
Good luck!

My RE uses the generic form of Repronex, and recommended that I go through IVFmeds as it was much cheaper. Quite honestly, I am really sure of the difference. I think that Repronex is obtained from menopausal women, and the other ones are genetically derived. As far as making follicles, I don't know that any ones are better than the others. I agree, I think it is just the RE's preference.

I use Follistim, and I totally prefer it to Gonal F for convenience of use reasons.

1. Less waste, you replace a tiny cartridge, not the whole pen, if they're even giving you a pen. (Gonal F also comes in vials with prefilled syringes which are a pain in the butt)
2. Comes in a carrying case, good for travel.
3. Needles are super small, and pen is easy to use.
4. Self priming!!
