Smile so glad I had my laparoscopy....sorry kinda long!

Hi everyone

Just thought I'd share what I went through last week.

I had a consult with my doctor two days before my surgery was scheduled, at which time he informed me it was up to me if I wanted to go ahead with the surgery or jump right into a round of IVF. He felt that since my HSG, office hysteroscopy, etc. were all looking good, I had a good chance forging ahead and skipping the laporoscopy. Needless to say I was a bit confused, as we hadn't even discussed IVF yet. (I had done three IUI's...two with clomid and one with injectables.) To try and make a long story short, I went back and forth not knowing what to do. I listened to my gut and said I'd still like to do the lap.

Well, good thing! As it turned out, my left fallopian tube was completely destroyed and had to be removed, I had some mild endometriosis, a bit of scar tissue, and my left ovary was pressed up against my pelvis (which was causing me pain....I just thought it was from the cyst I had as well). My doctor said it was the ugliest tube he had ever seen! (which did make me laugh despite the fact I was still pretty out of it at the time!) As he said...."sometimes the patient knows more than the doctor, and this was one of those cases." I really didn't know a darn thing...just listened to my gut I guess. (which I'm so grateful for)

I finally feel like there is actually a reason I wasn't getting pregnant all this time. Unfortunatley, all those other tests just couldn't detect it. I still have to go back in a couple of weeks for a hysteroscopy to have my septum removed (he couldn't do it at the same day because of a tiny puncture in my uterus). But there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel!!

Thanks to all who shared their laparoscopy experiences with me a few weeks ago. Hearing what you all went through definitely helped me make the right decision!

Glad to hear you went through with it and the outcome is positive. It's amazing to me that all these things do not show up in other tests. Both my ovaries were stuck to my pelvis, had lots of endo and scar tissue too. I also had a fibroid that showed up small on all the u/s, but it was HUGE. It was pressing into my bowels (sorry, TMI) and causing all sorts of non-IF related problems which have been cured with it's removal...all in all, I am with you...so happy I had the lap!

Happy healing and good luck with TTC with your new, improved insides!

Thanks for sharing! If this cycle doesn't work for me, I am going to a new RE and requesting a lap because my current RE "doesn't see the need for a lap now that IVF is there as a choice." That is exactly what she said to me! Frustrating!

Hope you are feeling better soon and can't wait to see your BFP!
