As with anything in potential pregnancy you need to weigh the risks vs. the benefits. Right now benefit of treating this problem before it develops into a raging infection far outweighs the potential risks of any meds you may take / procedures you may undergo. I'm a dentist and once dental pain starts it can go away for the short term, but once it's started it never completely goes away until you fix the problem.
I would first check with your medical doctor overseeing your care, but in light of severe pain and swelling I couldn't imagine they wouldn't want you to see a dentist / oral surgeon ASAP. For your information dental x-rays are relatively safe b/c they are directed nowhere near your abdomen, they are very low dose and at your stage of pregnancy they should do nothing to the embryo. Secondly there are a few meds that are considered safe for pregnancy: Penicillin to prevent spread of infection and limit the swelling and either Tylenol #3 (Tylenol w/ codeine) or Vicodin for pain. Obviously you shouldn't be taking more than you need, but the benefit outweighs the risks at this point. Good luck. If you need any more info feel free to PM me.

See, I totally forgot that we had a dentist on "staff" here on the boards. This board rocks...it brings so many of us together to help each other. I love it!
![]() P.S. Congratulations Amy on being PUPO. Hope you are resting up...can't wait to see that BFP next week!

Hi Anna, Just to add my 2 cents worth, I have read that the embryo shouldn't be affected by anything you take until it implants and connects to your blood supply. That means that if you do the work during the 1st week you should be okay.
