Congrats to all the
!!!I'm out, temp dropped, AF arrived. We will start our 4th IUI, probably on 7/17/09 according to my inner clock! My RE gave me the same med as the previous two failed cycles, Femara 2.5 CD5-9, still no injectable, or trigger shot. Is this normal? (I'm ovulating on my own, my BBT can be textbook example.) Good luck to everyone else!

Well, elation has been subdued by our RE's skepicism. They told us that the second Beta need to be at least a 50 and more would be better; it was 64. The called back this afternoon and said it still wasn't enough, so we have to do another Beta on Friday, then an ultrasound on Monday. We thought it jumping from 25 to 64 was a good thing, but evidently it wasn't as good as we thought.
Any thoughts? |

CONGRATS!!!!!!! I have been watching to see how things are going with former cycle mates. It is great to see it finally worked for you. You must be in shock. I’m still waiting for my man to return in October so we can start trying again. It seems like it is taking forever. I hope to join you on the BFP board by the end of this yearJ

TSYORK, Doctors are the worst sometimes with their opinions. They see so much bad stuff they have to be the voice of warning. I heard once that there are lies, ****ed lies, and statistics. Don't listen to them. Your beta jump was great and I've seen many women go on to have successful pregnancies with numbers lower than yours. Beta numbers can vary to extremes from one woman to the next. 7 Days after conception a normal beta is anywhere from 0 to 5. 14 days after conception a normal beta is anywhere from 5 to 426! 21 days after conception a normal beta is anywhere from 18 to 7,340! See what I mean? Try not to get bogged down in the numbers. You deserve your joy right now. Hang onto it until you're given a good, solid, concrete reason to be anything less than thrilled. I'm praying for you. - Angel

TSYORK,
I know what you are going through. It's breaking my heart to hear that you can't just enjoy this time b/c you have to test and retest. We had to be tested every few days as well. It's not fun, it's like waiting for the BFP all over again every few days. Everyone is right, keep the faith. I'm sure it will work out. You shouldn't get so hung up on the numbers, yes, but the docs want to see the numbers increase rapidly. In general, the HCG level will double every 2-3 days in early pregnancy. Your poor wife, she's going to fill like a pin cushion, but tell her it's for the best, so you guys know what's going on with the baby. It's tough...all of the waiting, but you can get through it. Know that we are all behind you and your wife. I know it's difficult. The first trimester is scary, but as you've seen many time on this site, so many couples hit snags like this and the baby is FINE!! Keep us posted and we're for you.

TSYORK, it's me again!...sorry, I just really want you to have peace of mind. Remember that every person is different. The docs go by what they are used to seeing, but that doesn't mean it's bad news for you.
This is what they say about HCG levels: In general, the HCG level will double every 2-3 days in early pregnancy. 85% of normal pregnancies will have the HCG level double every 72 hours. HCG levels peak at about 8-10 weeks of pregnancy and then decline, remaining at lower levels for the rest of the pregnancy. There is a large variation in a "normal" HCG level for any given time in pregnancy. Pregnancies destined to miscarry or to be ectopic (tubal) pregnancies tend to show lower levels (eventually), but often have normal levels initially. Some normal pregnancies will have quite low levels of HCG - and deliver perfect babies. Caution must be used in making too much of HCG "numbers". Ultrasound findings after 5-6 weeks of pregnancy are much more predictive of pregnancy outcome than are HCG levels. My docs told me to be cautious too. I didn't want to hear it, but when we got bad news I didn't feel like we were blindsided...if that makes any sense to you. They want to be realistic with you, but hopeful...that's why your wife has to keep testing. The real check will be the u/s. Angsea is right, the numbers can mean a lot of things. Just think, soon you'll be seeing your little jelly bean and watch him/her develop. Think on that and it will get you through this part. Take care and try not to worry too much....

My wife's nurse at the RE's office just called the Mrs. She told her that she didn't see any way that our baby could survive because the numbers weren't doubling like they were supposed to. She also told her that the numbers had to double every 48 hours. Well somebody has got their wires crossed somewhere because everything I've read is that in early pregnancies the beta needs to double every 48-72 hours, which it did, barely but it did it. She told her that she expects to see her numbers fall at her next beta level, and when she gets back to zero she will begin her menses. I sure wouldn't want her to be a motivational speaker!
She's going to have another Beta done tomorrow, just to see if her Beta is falling yet or not. Anyway, they're not God! Please pray for a miracle for us. |
