Question Progesterone Suppository

Is anyone else out there taking progesterone suppositories?

If so what dose are you taking and what side effects have you noticed? (hopefully none )

I had my second IUI yesterday and am supposed to start the suppository (400mg) tomorrow night so just wanted to know what to expect.

Thanks ladies and good luck to you all!

Hey Nicki, I'm not on them right now, but was not too long ago. They are gross, sorry. I was on 2oomg and had alot of leakage, I would defintily suggest pantyliners. Otherwise, the side effects can be very similar to pregnancy, like sore bbs, crampy, etc. But hopefully, they work well and those symptoms turn into real pregnancy symptoms. I would lay down for at least 30 min. after putting it in but be prepared when you stand up Goodluck to you

I am taking the crinone progesterone cream with applicator. It's not bad. The only thing is that every couple of days, I get clumpy discharge from it. Sorry for the graphic details!
BTW, have any of you heard that taking the progesterone can alter your urine pregancy test? Last month, after IUI I was told to get a beta instead of the urine test. This month RE said it was okay to take the urine test. I'm so confused....

I'm on them this cycle too (started yesterday) and I already hate them but if it helps I'll do anything..
I thought they would not alter a pregnancy test as pregnancy tests for HCG, not progesterone. Will the supplements delay my period from coming as long as I continue to take them or will my period show regardless? Also - I would love to have the CD21 progesterone test to see if I actually O'd but needless to say this would be impossible on the progesterone supplements right? Or maybe they can kind of take the extra into account and subtract it from the total?

Hi ladies. I have been on the progesterone suppositories for the last two IUI cycles and will do it again this cycle. I am on 100mg though. I put it in at night and have leakage first thing when I get up, but the rest of the day I am fine. I don't get much blood work with my cycles other than the beta at the end of the 2ww, but I am sure it would effect that- not sure that they could mess with those numbers to determine a baseline, medically speaking. My REs office said nothing about it effecting hpt either. Side effects- sore bbs is the biggest one, but I had nausea the first month (that could have been from any of the meds though). Hope this helps!

Nicky - I was on 200mg vaginally each night for my last cycle. First day or two I was a little dizzy but it did go away. Then, as the other ladies have said, there WAS some leakage, but if you do it at night right at bedtime it should not be too bad. I have to say I felt like a CHAMP till a couple of days before AF came and then a few days after AF. Good luck!

Hi Nicky,
I have been on 200mg 2xday (400mg total) since my Fallopian Tube Sperm Perfusion (FSP) which is an updated version of the IUI.

Frankly, the suppositories are gross. It feels like you're walking around having just used a yeast infection treatment...and there's a reason why they have you do those yeast treatments at NIGHT. Be sure to wear a panty liner is all I'm going to say.

But I have had no side effects from them.

Different progesterone suppository

Hi Ladies,

My Doctor has me using Endometrin for my progesterone therapy and it's not really as messy. It's a tablet that's kinda like alka seltzer.

Hope this information helps.

I agree with everyone above, they are messy and gross. Pantyliners are a must. I get the sore bb's, and after about a week I start to get slight vag. itchiness and irritation, nothing too bad. After I stop the suppositories it goes away within 24hrs. When I first started them I swore the sore bb's meant I was pregnant lol. Took me a month or two to figure out it's just the progesterone side effects

Sore boobs, nausea, moodiness were my symptoms. I found the insertion was easier to do with your fingers vs the applicator. I didn't find this way as messy.

I was on prometrium suppositories, and I had a lot of AF-like symptoms during my 2ww that totally scared me. I was bloated and crampy, my bbs hurt, and the fact that the suppositories were dissolving in there didn't help at all, because it felt like I was bleeding. I was convinced that AF was gonna show up.

To Airman's Baby:
Hello!!
Congrats on your big news. I am new on here, and read your post. What attracted me to your post was the little saying I can't wait to see my little cocoa puff!! My husband of 7 years and I are a multiracial couple too, and I often say that phrase. LOL We have been trying to conceive for 7 years. NO news yet, but I know our prayers will be answered someday. Can I ask you a weird question? I can not figure out for the life of me on how to post a question, could you help me with this? Again I am very happy for your great news.

Thanks, praying4miracles! I know your prayers will be answered someday (hopefully soon!)

I just want to clarify what you're trying to do. You said you wanted to post a question. Are you looking to start your own thread? (Like how ~Nicky~ started this conversation about progesterone suppositories?) If that's the case, on the top 1/3 of each page, there's a section labeled "Forum Categories". Click on the category that pertains to your question. Then you'll see a list of sub-categories within that group. Click on the one you want. On the next page, you'll see a button in the upper left (right below the Forum Categories bar) that says "New Thread", and you can start one there.

If I misunderstood your question, please feel free to send me a private message, or you're welcome to send me a private message anytime you want to chat!
