Raquel, good luck with your IUI this week! I hope it works out for you!

I am also on the fence about doing a medicated/unmedicated cycle. I have a very regular 27-28 day cycle however I always O early, on day CD12.

Have you had to do anything to prepare for the IUI?

Any insight you can share would be great. Thanks!!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to check in really quickly.

I went to see our RE last week. I had a transvaginal ultrasound and I saw one big follicle on my right ovary. He wasn't able to find my left ovary, but said it was probably hiding out behind my intestines or something. Everything looks good otherwise (endometrium, etc).

Oh, and we finally purchased 8 vials of our donor sperm

HOPEFULLY we won't have to use nearly that many! Our RE was pretty adamant about doing an unmedicated cycle first. He said there is just no reason to do medicated straight off the bat if you have no issues. So we're starting our 1st IUI unmedicated. My cycle should start in a couple of days.

How is everyone else doing?

Good luck

Good luck Nelly with your upcoming IUI.

Our FINAL IUI with RE was done this past Saturday. The count was 9 million motile sperm in which I have already contacted California Cyrobank to a possible refund (since they guarantee at least 10 million for IUI premium vials) The RE did not seem to concerned about the counts, but I was as a matter of fact, I feel this cycle is already a bust.

DH and I have decided that we may possibly do 6 cycles of home donor inseminations going forward. I have done extensive research on home inseminations and feel rather comfortable about getting that ball rolling.

Thanks Logyn! I'm sorry to hear about your sperm counts. I have heard that CA Cryobank is very good about refunding $$ for lower than guaranteed counts...so hopefully they will make it right for you.

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you that this is your cycle!

I was looking at home inseminations as well but we couldn't find a donor that we liked that had ICI sperm available. I also don't think I (or my husband) could deal with having to touch and handle another man's sperm. It was just too much for me.

When I called Caliifornia Cyrobank, they were very friendly and advised me to have the RE's office fax the Specimen Report to them. If I have a BFP this cycle, I can't get a refund although the count was lower than normal (which makes sense).

I understand where you are coming from about DH not wanting to handle another man's sperm with home inseminations. I'm honestly shocked that DH has no problems with it because I would (if I were a dude). He actually suggested that we do home inseminations from the get-go because it was more cheaper than going to an RE. I'm the one that convinced him to go thru the clinic since they can monitor you better and the success rates or higher. Home inseminations were out of the question for me months ago. However, after having 3 of my fertility sisters get pregnant with donor home inseminations after several rounds of IUI with an RE, made me change my mind and open up to home inseminations. One of the girls, got pregnant the 1st time she did a home insemination..I WAS SHOCKED, because she had a total of 6 failed DIUI's with the RE and she does it at home one time and gets preggo...go figure..what is the deal with that? I guess its just the luck of the draw. This TTC Journey is quite interesting, frustrating and rewarding all at the same time.

I just found this thread today and find a lot of people I already know in here!!

Nelly - Congrats on getting your 8 vials...sounds like you are ready to start your cycle!! Good luck!

Logyn - There's another gal over in the Azoo forum who recently got pregnant after doing 3 at-home inseminations...it's cool to know it does work and is much more affordable!! Also...just wanted to say that we got our BFP on our lowest count (11.8 sperm with 52% motility...so really only about 6 million motile). Good luck this month!!

Deanie - I'm sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancy...rooting for you to get a BFP again soon!!

Good luck to all of you who are TTC and Congrats to all of you who are pregnant!! It's definitely a unique situation we find ourselves in, but it's good to have others to go through it with.

Thanks

Thanks Kris for giving me some hope. I remember when you got your BFP, I danced the "baby jig" here at work because I was so excited for you. I had no idea that the counts were that low for you. I knew it was your lowest vial, but I was under the impression that it was 11 million motile.

Welcome to the group, I was wondering when you'd show up. LOL.

Hello

Hello, my name is Rose and my situation is very similar to Nelly's. I'm currently during 2ww after second iui with ds. I finally decided to join the forum, hoping that I will be able to go through the entire process of TTC much easier. After 3 years of TTC, multiple tests and DH unsuccessful procedures, I'm simply do not see hope that we would ever have a child. I can tell that all of you are very strong and optimistic, therefore I belive that spirit will also be shared with me. to all of you
Me 32 - no known problems
DH 38 - SCO
TTC - over 3 years
1st iui 07/09 -
2nd iui 08/09 - 2ww

Response to Rossmary

Rossmary, welcome to our little thread. I think its safe to say that all of us here know exactly where you are coming from. I feel like there is no hope too at times...especially when I read on the internet the low success rates for IUI (especially when using donor sperm). However, I try to stay positive by looking at the success stories, and they do help. I pray that those of us who feel like there is no hope have to one day eat our words when we finally get

Good luck.

Nelly/Logyn - Thanks for the welcome to the group!!

Logyn - Yeah...I'm always unclear on what number means what...but they told us it was 11.8 million post wash with 52% motility...I took that to mean only a little over half of the 11.8 million were motile. And my favorite "keep the hope" story is a gal I cycled with in February who had a count of 1.3 mil and ended up pregnant with twins!!

Rossmary - I know it's easy to lose hope. I remember getting the dx that my DH had no sperm and pretty much seeing not only our hopes of biological children go up in smoke, but also my dream of being pregnant. It's not how we thought we'd get pregnant, but once we came around to using donor sperm, we definitely felt hope to have our family and experience pregnancy together. I wish you the best as you pursue IUI w/DS...I hope you get your BFP this round. It took me five cycles...more than I hoped for, but even if it takes some time, it can still happen.

Rossmary, welcome to the thread. I'll be thinking sticky and POSITIVE thoughts for you. Hopefully this WILL be your month.

It's funny...DH was so adamant about being against DS when we initially found out about his azoospermia. And then he grew open to the discussion, and now he's just ready to be a parent. I can tell he's excited now, which just thrills me.

I had stopped doing the daily temping when we found out about his diagnosis, and this morning I got up to pee and he yelled "Don't forget to take your temp before you get up!" (AF started yesterday, YAY!) It was really cute.

Thank you all . I'm so impressed with yours stamina and ability to share it with the others, who go through similar life strugle.
Kris, did you take any medication with 4 of your unsuccessful iui's? My doctor recomends trying clomid next time to increase the chances. But does it really increse the chance? We had perfect timing last iui and no success.

Rossmary - We didn't use any meds with our first three IUI's. My 4th we did the same as our 5th - 100mg Clomid. I think the Clomid did give me an edge because I produced two mature follies and I'm only having one baby. So it's possible if I'd only produced one follie, I may not have gotten pregnant the 5th cycle. For our next baby, we will start out with Clomid from the start.

Nelly - That's cute that your DH is reminding you to temp!! It makes things so much easier when you are sure they are on board. That's how I feel when DH talks to the baby and about the baby...there's no doubt in my mind that he loves him or her as much as he would if they shared genetics. It's definitely true how our opinions change about DS...we were definitely vehemently opposed to it at first. I think part of that has to do with the shock of the dx and how this is so at odds with how we thought we'd have our children. In time, I think the desire to parent outweighs the "icky" factor with DS and other reservations the couple has with going this route. Good luck as you prepare for your IUI this month!

Well our story in my signature. Currently we are in the 2 WW! 1st IUI was on Sept 2. So far I don't feel any different other than slight cramping. We are planning to use one vial at a time. I wish we could do 2 in one month. This 1st cycle we are doing no meds. I really that we get lucky and get a the 1st time, but if not, I want to be a little more aggressive. Maybe use Clomid or even the trigger shot. Which I still don't know what that is. Some of you I see Brevelle and other meds. I am totally clueless.

We are planning to get a loan, so that we can purchase more vials because I also want sibilings.
I am on CD 22. AF arrived on CD 37 last month. Eek, the longest cycle I have ever had.

Wishing everyone
