iui with low sperm count

My husband and I are planning on trying for our 2nd child together. We went strait to IVF with our 1st one and decided to skip the IUI with the injectables because we only had so much money to work with and did not want to waste our money on trying that so we went straight to IVF and pretty much spent the rest of our savings. Fortunatly we where blessed with our daughter. I work for a new employer now that does cover IUI with injectables and was wondering if it was even worth the effort for us my husband has a really low sperm count ranging from 1mil-12mil. Mostly with the natural IUI we would get less than a mil to 4mil was the best. Are we wasting our time or do we really have a chance trying this out. We are not going to do IVF again because we can't afford it.

Hello,

they say doing an IUI with less than 10 million motile sperm decreases the chances of pregnancy. My prior RE requires at least 6 million motile sperm to do an IUI while my new RE requires at least 5 million. It all depends..it only takes one good sperm to reach the egg. It might even be a good idea to do a back to back insemination..that works wonders when low sperm counts are involved.

Good luck working on your next baby.

No home inseminations for us, have to move on to IVF due to damaged tube.

10-29-09 LAP and Hysterscopy, left tube was removed (undiagnosed ectoptic found ). The right tube was removed in 1993 as a result of a dermoid tumor.

Moving on to IVF in Feb 2010
