IUi Statistics

Here is a question that has been bothering me all day. What was the success rate that your RE gave you in regards to success rate of IUI's? May RE: says 40% which sounds pretty good. However when I am reading thinks on line I get a different vibe. I see alot of not so successful stats. I just hope he is not trying to sell me a dream. I have asked him about the stuff I read on line and he advises me to stay off the internet because it is polluting my mind. I told him I am obsessed with this entire process and I need info 24 hours a day so if you are not willing to give me your home phone number this is what i will continue to do.What to you guys think?

My RE told me that IUI has about a 20-25% success rate vs 75% with IVF. I know those stats are higher with injectibles but it is still really difficult to see those numbers. I am in the 2ww of my 4th IUI. There are some women who get pg their first round and I read a post on here where a girl got pg after her 9th IUI!!!!!

My RE told me success rates for first three IUI tries is 10-15%. After the 3rd IUI success rates are even lower. Isn't it strange how different RE give out different statistics for success rates. Makes me wonder...

my re didn't give me percentages, but did tell me IUI typically has a higher success rate that IVF, AND HE GAVE ME A REASON THAT MAKES SENSE.... b/c with IVF, the transferred embryo is similar to getting an organ donated, you body can choose to reject it, hence why they try to load you up with horomones to trick your body into thinking it is prego. With IUI this doesn't happen. He also said that in the world of infertility, IUI is teetering on the edge of being discontinued as an approved form of treatment, since multiple success rates are so prevalent. Keep asking your RE whatever you want to know. I milk mine for info every time I see him. Heck, I'm paying for it, might as well!

Percentage rates

I was told that its a 20% chance w/out injectibles and a 25% chance with injectibles. The 40% chance with an IUI that your doctor stated is the highest percentage that I have ever seen...even on the Internet. On the internet, the range is around 10-25%. Now, I sort of agree with your doctor about not believing everything you read on the internet because sometimes, it does get confusing. However, based off the evidence I see in "real stories" from people TTC using IUI, it takes most more than one IUI cycle to get preggo. I have read that 60% of couples doing IUI will be successful by the 4th try...but that was in some paperwork my doctor gave me, when I search on the internet, I see information that contradicts that. It's just a big ball of confusion.

Good luck, and I hope you get preggo on your 1st cycle.

Well perhaps my RE is going off of his research alone. Who knows. All I know is I hope it works because at this point it is all the insurance will cover and IVF is why to expensive from my budget at this time. Really stressed out today. Bad day at work and I need to go home

Sorry that you are having a bad day. I wish that I had better advice with dealing with the TTC stress, but I don't. All I can say is that one of the things that kept me going was to see that there are others like me out there who are going thru the same thing. Take it one day at a time. The will come.

I also wonder if it depends on your situation, and all the factors that go into it and your treatment, injectables probably result in more pregnancies than clomid, just like IUI will increase your chances in comparison to just timed intercourse. So maybe your RE is basing this on other people with similar situations as you are in...that said I believe my nurse told me on my first ever IUI that the sucess rate was around 20%...we got our BFP on our third IUI with injectables, but there have been a lot of people who get preggo on their first try and others have taken more, try and stay positive, you will see your BFP soon!

Gosh that seems high. I'm sure it depends on the issue at stake, like if the issue is male factor infertility and he's quoting rates using donor sperm, maybe it can be that high. But even that seems like a stretch since average rates of conception per cycle given NO IF issues is something like 15%. I know that for DH and I, who have no known IF issues, they told us success rates for IUI with Clomid would be up to around 15-20 %. Clomid wasn't much higher, maybe 18-25%. IVF rates for our ages and with unexplained IF were about 45-50%. Good luck and hopfully the IUI route will be the answer for you!

I was also told about 15 - 20% for my IUI with Clomid. I don't know if that will go up if we move to injectibles next cycle. I do know that I was told that after 3 Clomid cycles, your odds go down.

i think the percentages with most re's come from the typical range but also there own results...also factor in your age range, male factor, type of meds, iui vs timed intercourse...lol no wonder we are stressed...my re gave me 20-30% that seems to cover most of the spectrum lol...right now my clinic published ivf rates are 60% so ivf is definitely higher for live births according to that...best of luck no matter what percentage you are given...they are only numbers

Hi,
There is ONE statistic on IUI that seems to be consistent and it is this:
Of the women who DO conceive using IUI, 94% of them do so by the 4th cycle. In other words, going for more than 4 cycles means a lower chance for each one of those above 4. Make sense??
I have read between 6% and 26% per cycle success rate depending on all the factors. Of course, medicated cycles give a better chance.

I was given no stats either. The cycle I did prior to my IUI proved that my cervical fluid was hostile from the clomid and that sperm was not making it through the cervix. My RE suggested IUI that month but since it was not covered by my insurance, I took my chances having sex. Well that didn't work and I decided not to waste another month. I conceived on my first IUI. I also had 2 days of IUI in a row (used ovidrel so they could pinpoint ovulation).
