IUI with only 1 mature follicle?
Just throwing a question out there...has anyone ever been told by their RE that an IUI was not worth it if you only have 1 mature follicle on the day of the IUI.
I know "it only takes one" but last month we had 5 mature follies and this month only 1. And this is the first month we're paying for it on our own (insurance stopped covering) so I don't want to waste a procedure if it's a not worth it. In reading the "BFP after IUI" boards I feel like LOTS of ladies get a BFP even with only 1 follie...I guess I just need reassurance.

Had the IUI (FSP) on 9/1 09/17/09 AF 09/18/09 U/S 5 mature follicles -- 75IU Follistim days 3,4 and 6; 100mg Clomid days 3-7 and trigger shot 09/29/09 IUI#3: 5 mature follicles & 184m sperm 10/25/09 - 1 mature follicle; trigger 10/26 10/28 IUI #4 -- 1 follicle, 116million sperm count Taking the month off.

My RE didn't want to do the IUI with only 1 follie last cycle. We still did the procedure and while I got a BFN, I know other women have gotten pregnant, so I didn't want to pass on the opportunity.

well, i only had one mature follie for each of my first two IUI's, and two for my third. of course, it didn't work for the first two, and i'm currently in my 2ww for the 3rd, but the dr never said it wasn't worth trying w/ only one.

hey just remember when we get along with nature 1 follicle is the way it happens(lol nature who?) so don't let anyone tell you 1 folly is not enough...i got a bfp with just one folly in june(early m/c)but not the point and there are many ladies on here who only had one folly and got a bfp....so good luck to you and your single folly

Thanks, ladies! I feel better about it now after your responses and reading the "BFP with IUI" pages again. I'm amazed how many BFPs there were with only one follie.
And dylans...you're right. Nature does it with just one so maybe that's what's meant to be for me. Thanks again!

I only had one on my first two attempts, and my RE seemed happy with that

I just had my first IUI on Saturday, and only had one mature. My RE said he was happy with one good looking follie, and that although it's nicer to have 2 or 3, it only takes 1 and he has had a large success rate with only one.
So I am in the 2ww on only one follie! But I did feel better after reading through the BFP on IUI's. Good luck and tooooonnnns of baby dust!

I only have one, and the doctor didn't say anything like that to me. She said it just takes one to have the perfect baby. Looks like we are on the schedule, trigger today, but my IUI is scheduled for tomorrow. But I see yours is wednesday, dang I hope my doctor isn't doing it too early.

Married Feb 2007 TTC #1 since Apr 2008 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Me: 30 - Period stopped 10/08, Diagnosed w/ Premature Ovarian Failure DH: 32 - No issues ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  2 German Shepherds, 2 catsJan 09-May 09 Round 1: 50 mg Clomid & provera Round 2-3:100 mg Clomid & provera June 09-Sept 09 Day 3 blood test FSH 39.9 = post-menopausal Diagnosed with POF (told I have less than 1% chance of conceiving my own child). Researched donor eggs. Went on bc pills to give ovaries a break. July-Sept 09  Started Acupuncture. Oct 09- IUI#1 10/13 - Started Bravelle injections, if no progress only hope for me is donor eggs.  10/22 - 1 follicle, possibly 2 (left ovary) 10/26 - Trigger, 1 follicle 10/27 - IUI 11/9 - Nov 09 - IUI#2 or IVF#1 11/11 - Start Bravelle - increased dosage IVF or IUI - depending on how many follicles are produced CANCELLED - No Follicles  11/20 - back on BC pills for 1 month

KeepingPositive, my doctor has me trigger at home (usually around 11pm) and then the IUI is scheduled for 36 hours after the trigger. So I had my IUI at 9:30am today.
I think it's better to be a little early than late. I know that sperm can live inside for a few days.

My nurse is only letting me get one follie maybe 2 this time because she is worried that I will end up with multiples, thanks to octomom....but there are many ladies who get preggo with just one, hopefully we will be a few of them =)
