I just had a question as to how many doctors appointments and blood draws a typical IUI cycle has with stim meds? We had IVF a few years ago and conceived our daughter but can not afford another cycle and are thinking about trying iui with meds. I work alot and don't get too much flexability with my job, so wanted to see how much time is needed for ultrasounds and blood draws?

It's been awhile since my IUI cycles, but if I remember correctly, it goes a little something like this:

baseline u/s and bloodwork
about 3 appts of monitoring during stims
appt for IUI

So, I'm thinking between 5-6 appts total, but I could be wrong. It's more like 8-9 appts w/ IVF, so that sounds about right.

Hey Amy!

Well, I'm in the 2ww of my 4th cycle of IUI. This was my first full cycle of injections. My 3rd cycle I did 1/2 pills and 1/2 injections. My 1st and 2nd cycles were strictly Clomid.

For most of the cycles it went something like this:
1. Baseline u/s somewhere between days 1-3
2. Come back on day 9 or 10 to check follicles
3. Usually not big enough, so I come back in again on Day 11 and usually ended up doing the trigger
4. IUI
(So 4 times)

I'd say with injectables it would usually be more monitoring, but my follies matured by day 9, so I was ready to go after my 2nd appt. Those can depend because some dr.'s what you there every other day to monitor how you are progressing with the meds and either increase or decrease the amount.

I had cd3 us & bloodwork, and then about 7 appointments for us/bw and then the iui procedure. My RE's office opened at 7am for appointments so I always got out of there by 7:30am. They were even open on sunday mornings which was great!

I think it definitely depends on your meds! For my first two cycles, I was on Clomid 50 mg. I had a baseline on cd3, a follie check on cd10 and then my IUI. So, three appointments plus a visit with the dr each cycle. Last cycle I was on 100 mg Clomid and had one extra follie check in there. Now I'm starting injects, and I think that there will be more follie check appointments, but it'll depend on how quickly the follies grow.
