Perpendicular measurements of follicles?

Hello! My doctor only does perpendicular measurements (instead of diameter) of follicles. I was wondering if anyone else's doctor did this and if you had any information on what is considered a "ripe" follicle. I have had a difficult time finding research on this.

What does perpendicular measurements mean? I am unsure how my doctor measure my follicles. This last cycle, he told me that I have one follicle 16x21....So I am not sure how to follow??? Everyone else seems to post about a 21 mm follicle, so I am rather confused too.

My RE considers 18mm + to be mature. When I showed 1 follie at 18 is when he decided it was trigger time, then 2 days later was my IUI. The follie was over 20mm by then. I know some want to see multiple follicles, but that would depend on your diagnosis and your doc's preferences.
My RE measures the same way.
Hope this helped!
Good luck!!

Yes, I have found someone who is in the same boat! I think that the majority of docs measure the diameter of the follicle. Our docs both do perpendicular measurements. My doc said that once they do the measurement, say, in your case 16x21, they then add these two numbers together. They said that follicles measuring (when added) between 44-50mm are "mature." Yours would add up to 37mm, so with the trigger shot, it would be a good size. Good luck to you and thanks for responding, I felt all alone with everyone stating their follicle measurements with just one number. Baby dust to you.

Wow. I am so sorry. I COMPLETELY mis-read/misunderstood that original question I replied to. Sorry! Had a dumb moment!
