2nd IUI and trying to be hopeful
Hi all,
I just joined the site today and I am excited to connect with others who are struggling with infertility as I am. My husband and I have been TTC for a year and a half now. We tried on our own for a few months before seeing a doctor. We found out that I have PCOS, so the doc gave me meds (Metformin and Clomid), and we tried for a few months using only the meds. Needless to say, each month we were unsuccessful. Next we moved on to IUI. My first IUI with Clomid was unsuccessful also. The next month, I had a cyst so we weren't able to try. And the month after that, my hubby had to be out of town so we couldn't try then either. ![]() My doctor changed my med from Clomid to Letrozole. Has anyone had success on that med? I produced 3 good follicles on that med this past cycle, so I did my HCG shot last Sunday (1/3), and we had our 2nd IUI on Tuesday (1/5). My hubby's washed sperm count was 73 million with 93% motility, so that seems pretty great. At our doc's suggestion, we also BD'd that night just to make sure we were covered. I am now about 5 days post IUI and I feel nothing, but I am trying to be hopeful. I have learned to basically ignore any "symptoms" that I think I feel because they could simply be ovulation, or hormones, or side effects of the meds. During my last IUI, I thought I felt all these symptoms-fatigue, hunger, twinges in my belly-and I got a , so now I know not to pay attention to any of it.Anyway, sorry to write a book, but I would love any encouraging words from any of you!! |

Well, I'm not pregnant this month. I had light spotting on day 13, took a First Response test and it was clearly BFN.
Then, on day 14, AF arrived in all her glory. I spent last night sobbing. I just don't know how many more months I can endure this.

I know how you feel!
Jesheeca, I feel your pain. I don't know how much more I can handle of this either, and I haven't even had my first IUI yet. I am doing it Friday. I just feel like this messes with my mind so much. Sometimes I don't even know how to deal. What is the doctor saying about your prognosis? Does he seem confident that it will happen? My doctor does, but we have been trying for 2 1/2 years and nothing. I have a hard time buying into the optimisim because I have before and then
came. It's so frustrating to hope every month and then for my heart to drop. I have been dx with Unexplained infertility and I just don't get it. It was so easy to get pregnant with my first. I didn't even try. And now, I can't get pregnant to save my life. I just don't get it. And to make it worse they can't tell me why!!! I do want to let you know that I am going to pray for you tonight. Hope everything works out awesome!

Jesheeca:
I know exactly how you feel; it looks like we are on nearly the exact same schedule. I've been trying for 1.5 years, and just had my second iui that was a big fat bust. At least AF showed up for you. I get 5 days of spotting starting on day 13 every month and no AF until day 18. That means five days of knowing it was unsuccessful, but not being able to start the next round until AF decides to finally come around. Maybe tomorrow she'll finally visit. . . She never comes when you want her, and only shows up when you don't. Hey, third time's a charm, right? Let's just move along to the next chance.

I understand as well, but that doesn't make anyone feel better. I have unexplained infertility. We've been trying 2.3 years now; had four IUIs. I want to be hopeful, but I see others doing this longer, and then I know that I could just be childless forever. I am trying not to be sad, but I am totally withdrawn and feeling terrible. I think I will be a totally different person in a few years. Life is really unfair sometimes, huh?!

Well, the doctor started me on Follistim injectables. I did about 11 days of shots, then we were able to do another IUI yesterday. This is our 3rd IUI now. I want to have hope, but I'm feeling doubt that this is ever going to work. Has anyone had success on their first cycle of injectables?

Just wanted to wish you good luck!
![]() I'm waiting for the results of my 4th IUI right now... I remember when we first started treatments and I was reading about women that had gone through 3-4 IUIs, I just couldn't imagine that I'd ever be in that spot... and here I am, going through my 4th and already getting ready for an IVF! And yes, of course, there are those lucky women that have succeeded on their first cycle with injectibles, but, unfortunately, that does not mean anything... various women respond differently to the meds. Again, I wish us both good luck, don't lose hope! ![]()

Hi Jesheeca
I am sure many of us are on the same boat. You can read my signature for my wife's and my story, but very similar to yours so far. We have been trying for 2.5 years or so. We have tried natural, IUI with and without clomid, and now IUI with injectables (gonal-f) and no luck yet. We are now waiting to see if the last round of injectables + IUI have worked or not... In any case, both my wife and I have had a very rough time. It's an awful roller-coaster ride, being very hopeful and then very disappointed every month. Sometimes she has a tougher time, and sometimes I am the one who is down. My only advice is to seek help with a counselor. My wife started acupuncture treatments specifically geared towards fertility and that helps her a lot, to relax, and also to talk to the person who does the treatment. I started seeing a psychologist a while back, when I was at my lowest point yet. She helped me a lot. Just talking to her, and going through my thought process outloud was very helpful, and now I am feeling much better. At first I saw her weekly, but now I am only seeing her once a month, because I feel much better about things. Another thing that has helped both of us is talking about the possibility of adoption. We do not want to try that yet, but it is somewhat comforting that we are both in agreement that adoption may be an option in the future. Best of luck!

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone! I am currently 6 days post IUI. My doctor has me on progesterone suppositories this cycle (which are messy and no fun), and they have caused me to have VERY sore breasts! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm trying not to pay much attention to any "symptoms" though, because I'm pretty sure it's too early to have any real pregnancy symptoms. We're on our 3rd IUI cycle, and it's starting to get expensive, so I PRAY it works this time because I'm not sure how much more we can afford to do. I'll keep y'all updated!

Spotting-could it be implantation bleeding?
I am now 11dp IUI, and I've been having a small amount of brown spotting today. Usually I start spotting around day 13 and then AF starts on day 14, so this seems just a little early. I HOPE that it's implantation bleeding, but I just don't know...maybe AF is going to rear her ugly face early this month. Any thoughts??
