IUI after ovulation?
Had the trigger yesterday at 8am(ish). Follies at 23 and 18. Today I went in at 8am and at the u/s, the RE says "there's the one on your right, it hasn't grown from 18....and on your left, you O'd that one, that's great!"
Huh? I thought the point of IUI was to get the swimmers there before I O'd. He said "no, this is good, the egg is good for about 24 hours, I think a bit more actually." Ok, I trust him. He said that the one on the right (at 18mm) could go either way whether it would release an egg or not, and that if so, the trigger would get that one to ovulate. This is all so confusing for me! All I know is that the RE and nurse both felt this was a great situation and timing, I'll go with it! I didn't feel a thing, and the numbers were fine with 30mil and 100% motility. Back tomorrow for the back to back IUI, in which case would cover it if the 2nd follicle ovulates an egg. We'll see on the ultrasound I guess. What do you think?

Hi OCWife, My RE does IUIs at 40 hrs (as long as blood work does not show LH surge) - I think in part to allow ovulation to occur right before the IUI. I need to ask him though to confirm. For both my IUIs, I already had 1 follie ruptured and 1 about ready to go. I have read somewhere that it's ideal to have the IUI within +/- 6 hrs of ovulation. And read some study about IUI success rates when lead follie had already ruptured, I'll see if I can find the link. Anyhow, I haven't had success yet, but it seems like the timing has been good. And sounds like your timing was right on too.

I had my IUI today. I swear I O'd last night because I was in considerable pain especially on my right side, where I had 4 follies (21, 20, 19, 18). I was totally disappointed that I missed the timing. However, when I went into today for the IUI the RE said the pain was most likely due to the follies growing larger not the actual O. He thought I was probably still ok on timing. He also confirmed that eggs live approx 24 hrs. after they are released. I too am confused/frustrated because the nurses have always told me that ideally IUI will happen before O so the sperm are there waiting when the egg arrives. I didn't have the HCG trigger because of the high number of mature follies. I was suppose to use OPK to determine my surge. And even though I took a test every time I went to the bathroom I believe I missed the surge. I will no longer use those OPK kits with the 2 lines where you have to "guess" which line is darker. Grr! I'm graduating to the clearblue easy tests that have a smiley face when positive. They have got to be more fool proof. I guess I need OPK for Idiots! Good Luck to everyone and God help us during these next 2 weeks!!

Thanks for the responses!
It looks like I O'd twice, within a day or so of each other! Just to sum: CD18 - trigger at 8am. 2 follies, a 23 and 18. CD19 - at 8am showed I O'd the 23 follie but the 18 was still there, so IUI CD20 (today) - at 8am it showed I O'd the 18 follie. Apparently it was about 12mm and it had fluid and RE says it O'd because if it wasn't mature and didn't O, it would either still be there or it would have shrunk but not by that much. So, we did another IUI. I start progesterone tonight via vag suppositories, good times. Thought I'd share. I really didn't think O'ing twice was all that common but I guess it can be. I felt pains on my right side late last night before bed and I wonder if that's what it was.

Hi Girls, I think my IUI was after I o'd as well. I had my surge soemtime bw 11am and 5pm on the 12th. Then I woke up in the dark early morning like Noel on the 13th with o pain - though I guess it could be follie growing bigger. I took my temp at the usual time on the 13th and the temp had already gone up indicating ovulation! I had my IUI later that afternoon at 2pm. So now I'm freaking out and googling everything related to this as well. ahh!
I hope the sperm makes it there in time. ![]()

Hey ladies,
Is everyone hanging in there? I am doing ok. However, my breasts are soooo flipping sore. everyday they are getting worse! I can't get too excited, it's probably just the progesterone doing it's thing. I sure wish there was a way to tell the difference. It seems too early for sore breasts pregnant or not. UFTA!! I'm fighting the POAS monster. Trying to hold off as long as possible. I am 7dpiui today. wishing everyone the best! |
