Angie,
That is indeed what our RE told me. Follistim causes the better quality eggs to be released. How? I have no idea. I can only hope it's true!
And Angie, baby, you are never out of line here!

I have to tell you, I'm so disappointed after reading this thread. I just had my 3rd IUI 2 weeks ago and am waiting for either my cycle or missed cycle to take a test. So tired of seeing the "not pregnant result! I completely was excited about clomid and not worried in the least about all the warnings of "multiples"...HARDLY....I can't even get one to take! Last follicle check, I only had one good one. I thought clomid was supposed to make several follicles. They tell me everything is great with me and my husband besides us being older, me 37 and him 43. Guess I was hoping for alot better results with Clomid but after reading this it is very discouraging. I have symptoms right now that I'm about to start my period which puts me already in an irritable mood, then I read that pretty much every sign of getting your cycle is also a sign of "possible early pregnancy"....so the whitish discharge I typically have before my period, that i have right now, could either mean A) My period is coming, or B) My period is not coming and I might be pregnant! SERIOUSLY, does anyone really know anything trying to conceive and is this mood of mine PMS, or is it FRANTIC early pregnany emotions....so annoying!

Mrs. Kosa,

Didn't mean to discourage. I had hoped to warn. I hate to see people wasting time on clomid for too long. It just seems like it rarely worked so I wanted to know what others thoughts and experiences with it were.

I truly hope this helps you. Maybe you need to ask your RE how long does he/she recommend you be on clomid, and how soon can you move on to something more aggressive? Oh, esp. since you say you are 37, I would hate to see you waste time on clomid, maybe try a cycle or 2 but don't let them make you go 6 months on clomid or something similar if it isn't working, move on to injectables. In this arena, I can't stress how the older we are, the more aggressive we need to be, on our own behalf.

We do hope to point eachother in a better direction based on our collective experiences.

My problem is I wan to be pregnant so bad, I think I'm having symptoms every month Sorry I don't have an answer for you and your period. I can just say, I hope it's NOT your period!

Much love,
Julie

Thumbs up

Hi Julie:
Well, I had one doctor who had me on clomid for 6 months and could never inseminate me because it was the "weekend", not knowing any better I was like, "okay". Well, out of total frustration I went to another doctor who told me it was crazy she wasn't inseminating me on the weekends AND 6 months was too long to be on clomid because it can damage your lining and even if you did get the sperm and egg to connect, it would probably just slip right through if the lining wasn't thick enough. So, after that sent me into a total panic, she did a test and my lining was still good, so she gave me one more round of clomid and I only had one follicle this time, but we went ahead and inseminated. But, like you, I want to be pregnant so badly that I am overanalyzing every tweak, cramp, spasm, etc. in a battle between, "oh god, is that my period" and "oh god, am i pregnant!" Thanks for the advice and I will certainly get more aggressive if I haven't conceived this time.
Good luck to you!!!
Rochelle

Well, I think I'm biased... but, clomid didn't work to get me pg 8 yrs ago. I'm 37 and so glad the RE didn't waste our time with it. We are older and need better eggs developed. Although I think my meds were VERY expensive, it fortunately worked out with IUI #2. Everything checked out with DH and I. Clomid can mess with your CM and I think I have that problem anyway (with CM) so "Clomid is bad for Angie." (humor there)...

I hope our experiences give you more information to consider, MRSKOSA.

Hi ,

I actually have read in other forums about allot of women who have succeeded , but only on 100-150mg never on 50mg. I just started my first cycle yesterday and I am having major issues after just one day . First of all I have broken out on my face like a 14 year old and I am extremely emotional , I have screamed at my husband all night long, at one point I forgot why I was so mad And Im crying at a drop of a hat ....

Anyways I really hope this is going to work because I don't know how long I can take this or how long my husband can take it

Good luck to you!

Lots of

I'm on my third and final round of Clomid with IUI. I'll find out next week if it worked this time. I know lots of people on another board who've succeeded with just Clomid, but I think it really varies from person to person. One girl I know got 5 follies on 50 mg, and I just barely got 2 on 100 mg. I do know that my RE will only do 3 rounds because it can mess up your lining and cm if you take it for too long. Plus, she is of the school that believes that if it doesn't work by the third try, it's not likely to work at all. If I'm not preggo this time, we'll be moving on to injectibles.

I got pregnant both times I used Clomid, sorry to buck the trend here...the first time I miscarried due to undiagnosed APS and the second time resulted in my twins. Both times it was on the 50mg Clomid. It does work, probably just not for everybody.
