when should changes be made to dosage / meds
I may be jumping the gun, which shows my newness to all of this. Had my first unsuccessful IUI last cycle. I am on CD2 - I have a call into my DR. to find out what if any chances will be made this month regarding medication, timing etc....
Is it typical for them to keep you on the same protocall even if unsuccessful? |

Gina,
I asked mr RE the same thing after 2 failed IUIs. I get great sized follicles and 5-7 each cycle. He said there is no reason to change or adjust my current meds. He also said there's no telling why I had 2 failed cycles. It's a gamble. I'd say if you didn't have any lead follicles or if they were very small, your RE might increase your does. They all have reasons for the meds the use and the dosage, so we do have to trust them to an extent. My RE said we should try 4-6 IUIs before moving on to something else. But it would depend on your IF problem, age, etc. I think if you look at our "signatures" you will see many of us have multiple failures. Don't give up! Chin up! Many of us are in the same boat. Take care, Much love, Julie

That was a nice post, Julie.
My doc added progesterone (prometrium) to my protocol after the 2nd IUI. She upped my FSH drugs just a bit, based on my response to the first round (which was okay, but the 2nd time she said, "I'm VERY pleased with your cycle this time"). So, it does depend on how your body responds. And getting the follies is just part of the battle, unfortunately. Keep hoping! ~A~

I think it depends on how you responded to your medications the first time around and also what protocol your RE normally runs on. Sometimes it may be affected by insurance and other times it's just a process of elimination until they find what works best. If in doubt, call them, YOU PAY THEM and thus they need to meet your needs.
