Freedom Pharmacy

I was just wondering about Freedom Pharmacy. Does our RE have to call the prescription in and can they make us buy our supplies from them (our fertility center)??

I just realized I could have saved $50 by buying my Lupron from Freedom and that makes me a little annoyed. We are cash paying because our insurance doesn't cover anything...so every little bit helps.

I went on their site and couldn't see what their process is of getting meds from them. Can anyone help me whose bought from them before and what reaction did you get from your RE when you told them you wanted to buy from another supplier?

Thanks!

Hello,
I used Freedom..........my doc recommended them and sent them my required med list via fax.......they then called me for payment and I rec. the drugs the next day.....I about passed out when I saw the SIZE of the box...I was expecting one much smaller.
Also, they have a pharmacist on hand at all times and are very helpful with any and all questions........

My RE uses a totally different pharmacy and I requested that they call my meds into Shrafts as they are much cheaper since I am paying out of pocket as well. You just have to request it with your RE. Once the scrips are called in you can actually refill them yourself if needed when you run out.

we are also using Freedom... you can ask your clinic to call in your prescription anywhere YOU want them to call it... i would recommend comparing prices at various pharmacies...

good luck...

Freedom is excellent- they even have a plan if you do so many cycles your 3rd is free.(I think, I lost track which cycle) .it helped us with cost! If you are self paying tell your doc thats where you want them to call in your script! (hopefully you wont need more than one cycle it does get extremely expensive!)

That's the only thing...I'm pretty sure that our RE has the meds in his office. At least that's how the Lupron worked. I got my kit from their office, not by prescription.

Oh well...I suppose I'll just call and ask on Monday. I guess they can't stop me from saving money...lol. Our fertility clinic is just that, nothing else and it's really big. They do everything there and send nothing to any outside labs...so I just don't know.

Duh I just need to ask more questions

I personally think it's a little odd that they are making you purchase from them. Are they a pharmacy as well as a clinic? I don't think they are aloud to dispense medication and require payment for it. I know they can give you free meds if they have them from donated patients or drug reps, but I didn't think clinics were aloud to sell medication unless they also have a pharmacy on site. I could be wrong, but I woudl definitely bring up the fact that you have done comparison shopping. If they won't allow you to go through another pharmacy, at least ask them if they will match freedom pharmacy's price.

All that being said, my first cycle that I used hcg with clomid, my RE's office just called in the prescription for my Ovidrel to a local pharmacy. I ended up paying $70 for it not knowing any better. Since then, i've expressed an interest in comparison shopping and THAT is when they said, "ok, you might want to try freedom pharmacy". I was aware of freedom pharmacy, but didn't say anything about the particular pharmacy... they just brought it up on their own! Ovidrel is $44 for the same dosage --almost $30 savings!!!
My first thought was that they might be getting kickbacks from the local pharmacy. Otherwise, why wouldn't they have used freedom the first time? Both of them do overnight shipping. Both of them are reputable, etc. I don't know why they did that. Unless they just weren't aware of the pricing the first time around.
Good luck!

I have used Freedom twice now, at the suggestion of my RE. They're great. DH and I are paying out of pocket and have filed claims with our insurance to hopefully get something back, even if it's just a little it will help. My RE calls the prescriptions in. Freedom calls me to confirm the order, finalize the payment, and set up delivery. Since someone has to sign for them when delivered, and DH and I aren't home that much because of work, the meds are delivered to my RE's office and they sign for them. I just pick them up. It's a nice set-up. Your RE should be able to discuss various options for you, rather than telling you to only go through your RE. That sounds a bit sketchy to me. And, don't ever worry about your RE's feelings in all of this - like if they'd get upset if you chose to get your prescriptions filled somewhere else. It's up to YOU, not them. Your RE is there to provide a service for YOU, not vise versa. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all of your replies. My RE didn't say I HAD to buy them from them...I haven't asked them yet what their protocol is, but I'm assuming that I will be able to get the meds and kits from wherever I want. They don't have their own pharmacy, but they order from somewhere else and those kits are delivered to them. I even saw that I can get my HCG shot from Freedom and that is so cool too! I'll find out on Monday when I give them a call but I'm pretty sure it's going to be up to us. Why would I spend more money than I really need to? I already feel like I'm out $50 from the Lupron. My kit was $250 and from Freedom, it is $199! I'm sure that RE's want to make their own little bit of money from the meds, but not on my wallet anymore!! I can't afford all the extra's added on

Anyways thanks again everyone! You're so great!!

Well I talked to my RE's office today and they said it was fine to use Freedom Pharmacy and they were going to call my prescription in today for my Gonal-F!!! YAAAAAY! It wasn't even an issue and they said no big deal and they understand that it is less expensive for the people paying out of pocket. I'm SO excited...they've used them many times before they said!

So...I'll be ordering them today and get them tomorrow...just waiting for to get here! I've just been spotting and nothing heavy that I could call my first day

So the roller coaster is getting ready to leave the station !!!!

I am on my 3rd IUI cycle and used Freedom the first two, so this cycle they are paying for the meds. It really helps since our ins does not cover any drugs...and since I am on 225 iu's for 9 days that REALLY adds up quick!! Good luck!!
