Hello Everyone:
I am new here and was very reluctant to post, but I see how supportive everyone is to one another. My husband and I are newlyweds, but have been trying to conceive since 2003. I recently found out that I have blocked tubes and must have IVF in order to have children. I am 38 yrs and hubby is 55. I don't have any children and he has 4 from a previous marriage. I finally came to terms with my problem and scheduled an appt. with a fertility specialist today. I am having a hard time accepting the facts. I absolutely LOVE children. I have been an educator for 10 yrs and now own a child development center and oneday have high hopes of having my baby at the center with me.

4mybaby!!! I am glad you decided to post. You are right- we are a very supportive group. IF is a hard pill to swallow. There are plenty of ups and downs. But this is not the end, it is just the beginning! When is your appointment? Have your Drs mentioned trying to unblock your tubes?

Best of luck on your IVF journey. I can't wait to hear about your updates!

Jencat thanks for welcoming me to the board. I actually requested an appt via email and am awaiting a response. I just couldn't bring myself to actually speaking to a live person to make the appt. After joining the board and reading the posts, I am vowing to call tomorrow and get an appt. ASAP. I already feel like I am not alone and have nothing to be ashamed of. My gyn did not mention anything about unblocking the tubes. I don't know when this might have happened. I have never had an STD but have had 2 surgeries to remove fibroids. Thanks for your support and I will give you an update after I make that appt via phone 2morrow. The clock is ticking and I have to overcome my fears and just admit the problem without shame and get the ball rolling.

There is no shame in IF. It is a disorder. Lots of us have it. It isn't fun, not fair, and totally sucks. But believe me, you will lose your shyness and any shame very soon. With all the poking and proding that goes on!!! But you are right, there is no reason to wait. You want a baby now, then now is the time to make it happen. RE's have seen it all. And if you get a good one, they will make you feel comfortable and let you know that you are not alone in this journey.

How did your Gyn find out that you had blocked tubes? Did you have an HSG? Your RE will run lots of tests on you and DH to see what treatments you really need. Gyn's have no experience in reproductive endocronology and shouldn't dole out advice such as you need IVF or IUI or whatever. Wait for the specialist, the RE.

I am going to hold you to calling and making an appointment tomorrow! The sooner you do this, the sooner you will get the ball rolling. This is a hard journey, but the outcome will be amazing!!!

JenCat! I did it..I made my appt 2day. I will visit the RE on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007. My gyn had me to take an hsg and when I had the test done, the Dr. that did the test said that 1 tube was totally blocked and one was clear. Then when I had my follow-up with my gyn she said that they were both blocked. I really want to thank you for your support and giving me that push that I really needed. I will let you know how my consultation goes!!

Hi. I just started reading all the threads yesterday and figured out how to do the signature today so I thought I would introduce myself. I was looking for some support because I am sick of all the work. I know it will be worth it, but it feels like forever. We have been trying for a couple years.

We had a "chemical pregnancy" in July 2006. When we saw the BFP were so excited and told everyone and then had to "untell" a couple days later. That stunk.

We did our second IUI last week (9/19) and for whatever reason I am not hopeful. They said we had 5 mature folicles and good sperm mobility. (I don't remember what the sperm count was.) I know I should be hopeful.

Looking forward to chatting with everyone (and to getting pregnant).

Newbie

Hi everyone! I have lurked around several boards for a few months. My story is that last febuary my fiance and I decided after long debate (he has 2 children already) that we wanted to have one child. Maybe more for me than him. Anyway, I started the workup at the ob's office just because I knew that I am considered of advanced maternal age. My first fsh was 11(10.2) being high normal. Other labs were fine. So we retested the next month and my fsh was 6, E2 was good and I had her run an additional test (to further qualify ovarian quality), Inhibin B which was also good. HSG shows tubes are open. We decided to try natural cycles for a 6 months. All negatives. We added accupuncture and chinese herbs during the last 3 months. 2 months ago, we did the SA and found that my fiance had low count and low motility. Both of us were surprised. We started him on herbs and vitamins. Oh, he is a smoker, and that is his primary sperm killer! Every time he lights one up, I tell him that he is killing our sperm! LOL. He still smokes, but the vitamins and mojo herbs have double his count and motility. We are happy about that. So, now we have decided to start clomid with IUI. Originally we were set to start in September, but my very regular 28-30 day cycle decided to be late and strangely different than before. I almost think we had a (undiagnosed) miscarriage due to a very large corpeus luteum (via u/s) and some strange pinkish brown spotting. So, I should be starting clomid some time next week if AF is on schedule. Wish me luck and quick success because our insurance policies do not cover this at all.

missywojo!! hang in there! We are all here to support each other!!! Glad you are seeking support here! I have been on for a month and it has helped me SOO much!

4mybaby! Congrats on your 2nd appt! Yes, it is hard to get the ball rolling but once it starts it does get a little easier/isn't as bad as you think. I was so overwhelmed with everything after our first ivf consultation we did nothing for 5 months. As long as you have a great RE/staff it makes it easier!! Glad you are posting!!

steph&dan! I hear you on the whole DH smoking/killing sperm deal!! I am taking full advantage of it to get him to finally quit!! Good luck with everything!!

Steph!

I wish both of you the best of luck for your IUIs! Steph (and Jen) you gotta get your DH's to quit smoking. Not only is it bad for their sperm, it is bad for developing embies to be around the second hand smoke. Keep at them. After all we go through to get pregnant why take any risk?

Post A little bout me.

Hello Ladies!! My name is Vanessa, Dh and I have been ttc for about four years now. I guess I start off by giving you a little info. on our past. After a year of trying my Ob put me on six cycles of Clomid all 's. Then I had the HSG done some blockage on left tube (OUCH!), Dh has semen analysis done with EXCELLENT results . Then I was referred to the RE. My first appt. was on 3/20/07 Which happened to be day three of . They did b/w which confirmed I had pcos I was put on 1000 mg of Metformin ER . The next month he added Femara 2.5 mgs twice a day my follicle developed to 15.5 just a little shy, I suspose. The next round was cancelled due to vacation. Finally, next month we added met, femara, and follistim 75iu, and trigger (novarel) and timed bd'ing with FOUR mature folliclies (I believed God wouldn't give me more than I can handle and a little baby fever which also resulted in . I had a really bad after this cycle which almost sent me to the hospital and I called the nurse on called for some pain meds. She then called in the pain meds and said the I needed to come in for a consulation appt. The re then suggested poss. ENDO . I thought the worst PCOS AND ENDO!! He ordered a Lap surgery to check things out due to BFN'S and horrible AF's. Come to find I had no ENDO . But was covered in infection that was all over my cervix, uterus, tying down and blocking my tubes once again, and was beginning to enter my colon . So they cleared me out on 8/15. The infection is still a "mystery" to Re and myself. I bleed for two weeks afterwards and now my is delayed. Cycles are fairly normal thanks to Met. Due to surgery af is still pending. If no af in two weeks we will induce af and do MET, FEMARA, FOLLISTIM 75IU, TRIGGER, AND FIRST IUI!!?? Very exicitied and nervous at the same time. Now that all is "CLEAR" we are to be blessed with a .
TO ALL!!
Nessa

Nervous about upcoming results

I am new to these blogs but I figured I need to talk with someone who knows something about all this pressure.
My husband and I have been trying to concieve for 4 years. We had originally done several rounds of clomid and no result. I had a laproscopy performed and then went on Lupron for 6 mos
Doc put me on follistim and we did an IUI in July of this year. - no luck
We just did our second IUI and I am supposed to find out the results on Tuesday Oct. 2nd.- I do feel more positive about this one.
I CANNOT take another negative result. During this process, I have had 2 sister in laws find out they were preg.
This is hard. I am tired of crying and I hate going to family events because I get so upset.

Anyway, I am not always this negative, I am just throwing myself a pity party today. Anyone else ever have those days?
