Hello everyone!!
A warm hello to everyone! I just discovered this board. Here's my little intro: I just turned 40, my dh will be 46 in a few months. We had one successful IVF in 2005 and I am blessed with the most wonderful (when he's not misbehaving) little boy! We had a failed FET (only 1 embryo to transfer) in February of 2007. Looking to have a successful IVF in the near future. I'm meeting with a new RE on the 27th of June. During my FET cycle, I was cancelled in Jan due to high E2 levels. After my Feb FET a staff member said they could not believe they would charge or even attempt FET with only two embies on ice! This really upset me! But this is a new cycle and I pray that it works. I wish everyone those great big BFP!!! Laurie

Hello everyone
Just found this board today. My DH and I have been trying for over 2 years. I am 37 and he is 41. We just completed our first IUI with no success....found out today with a beta test. He has a slightly slow sperm but nothing too terrible. It's hard to stay hopeful sometimes. Has anyone on this board been successful with IUI. Love to hear some success stories.

Hi Ladies. I finally came back since the daily routine was starting to get me down. Our first cycle was cancelled as I O'd too early, that was really disappointing and
, we waited a cycle then tried for this one #2. My RE went straight from natural to injectables and I have to say that this scared me a lot as I didn't think I could give myself injections, but everything turned out ok. I still only have 1 dominant F, but all my other results look great, as a matter of fact I take my Ovidrel at 10pm tonight (June 29) and at 7.45am tomorrow (June 30) they have scheduled me in for my first IUI, then they do a follow up IUI the next day. I am so and scared at the same time I just don't want to get my hope up as it probably won't work, but I just wish I was after my 2ww so I could test and get it over with. Wish me luck

Good luck Tracey and Chloita on your IUIs! Stay positive. It could make a big difference. All it takes is 1 follie to get pregnant.

Hi - We had our 1st IUI today and do a follow up in the morning. Wasn't too bad, but I did get quite a bit of spotting and cramping hope this is normal. Just taking it easy right now and preparing for the 2ww.

yep spotting is normal. They do the IUI just like they do a pap smear, and especially since you are ovulating, just ovulated, lots of blood flowing to the area. Many women spot. Take it easy and best of luck to you!

This roller coaster ride...sucks!!!
This is probably the third forum I've joined. You get to a point in the baby making business when you just want to reach out to everyone and anyone. We're on a first IUI cycle with a new doctor after numerous IUIs and IVFs. It really does take alot out of you each time. This thing that really gets me are friends who say "just relax and it will happen". Yes they have kids and think it's so **** (apologies for the explictive) easy. I'd like to stick them with the 1001 needles I've had to suffer with and the yo-yoing weight and mood swings.
How can you relax when you can't wear your normal clothes or want to sleep at your desk???Nice to know there are others out there feeling just like me...... I'm certain though, it WILL happen it's just when???!!! xxxxx

I'm new here too. I'm 27, and My Husband Chris and I have 2 Beautiful Daughters. We are trying for baby #3! We'd love for it to be a boy. It's been a while since we have had little baby feet in our home. We are ready to complete our family.
I have PCOS, and Hypothyroidism (didn't show up until after I gave birth to my 1st Daughter) We tried Clomid for a few cycles, and that didn't work. We were then switched to inject-ables. Repronex did the trick for us on the first try (high dose), we also had the IuI done. 2nd Daughter we again went with inject-ables. This time they tried Brevelle, I was not responding so mid cycle we switched over to Repronex, and BOOM, Cienna was here 9 months later! We again did the IuI. So we are on our journey for baby #3. I have my consult appointment on July 5th, and since I am pretty familiar with what all is supposed to be done, I have already did my 14 days of provera, started my glucophage and requested all the necessary blood work, so we can just go full steam ahead and try to conceive this cycle. AF should be here any day and I'm planning to start inject-ables around day 3 like before. My RE is always so astounded by me showing up with everything so ready to go. DH and I may do a sex selection, but not sure yet. ![]()

Uterus lining
Hi!
I just came back from the Dr.'s office, they did an ultrasound and the nurse told me that my lining is 4.8 and that they like to have 7 or more before doing an IUI. She also said that I have only one folicule formed. What caled my attention was that she told me to go ahead and had the Ovidrel tomorrow night and the IUI on Friday. I was wondering if any of you can tell me if this is the right thing to do. I spoke to a friend who has gone through 5 IUIs and she told me that she had fine lining and one folicule once and the Dr. decided not to do the IUI until the lining was thicker, so she waited another month. Also, I wanted to know...is it common to have the nurses doing IUIs? I just saw my Dr once, about 8 months ago and never heard from him again, I just want to know if it is the same for everyone. |

Well, I guess my story is similar to all the others. I'm 29 and my husband is 30. We have been TTC for about 3 yrs. The only option for us was IVF due to low sperm count and low motility. First IVF was Feb with 39 eggs, 24 fertilized. They transferred only one grade A+ embie but ended up with a BFN. Took a couple of months off and finally did a FET (had 5 frozen) on 6/28. Will have our beta on 7/9
Praying really hard that this is the time for us. Nice to have a place to talk. |

My nurse did my IUI- really, it isn't a procedure that takes real technical skill...and I think I nurse would be better than the Dr. due to the fact that most seem a lot more gentle. Basically, a technician will separate/wash the sperm and load them into a syringe (I am a Molecular Biologist- I could do that part easily). The syringe has a long tube attached to it and the nurse inserts the tube into the uterus and pushes on the syringe to release the good sperm! Many nurse practicioners do pap exams- it is just training on how to do the procedure. So I am sure your nurse will be fine. As for my RE, I met him on my first visit. The next time I saw him was for my re-eval meeting last week, 2 weeks after my ectopic. He did not come to the hospital to check on me, although he did call once when I got home. He didn't even look at my incision sites- I made an appt with my Ob/gyn to do that. Wait, no I saw him the day before I had the rupture, when I was having severe pains. I was at 6.5 weeks and was scheduled for a u/s anyway. I was at the ER at 4am that day, then went in for my u/s. He came to the u/s, although the tech did the actual probe... I think you probably see more of an RE when doing IVF, but the RE makes the protocol for your IUI and the nurses can do the rest. Really, I think it is better that way. As for the lining, I am surprised that they wouldn't want to check to make sure it is thickening before proceeding. On CD12, my lining was like 7.2 and they told me to come in 2 days later-they wanted it to be above 8. I did and my 1 follie went from 17 to 21, and my lining was 8.5. They had me trigger that night. Can you ask for another u/s before proceeding?

Thanks for your reply!! This is very frustrating for me as I do not understand how is it that they want me to have the IUI even knowing that my lining is so thin. Today I started to think that it is just business for them...money more than anything else. I do not know if I should use the Ovidrel tomorrow or not and I don't really know if I want to have the IUI knowing that my chance is so low. I could ask for an ultrasound but I don't really know if I should trigger myself or not?
I think I'll have to wait one more month... |

Chloita, What day are you in your cycle and what was the size of your follicle? I just had my FUS yesterday on Day 8. My lining was 4.5 and my follicle was a 9. She said that my lining was in line with my follicle size. I have heard of woman getting pregnant with a thin lining. I just don't think the chances are as high. At my doctor's office, the cost of the IUI is pretty cheap ($250). I would rather pay the $$ and give it a shot, than waste all the time, energy and $$ I already spent this month. That's just my opinion though. Stay positive. You never know, this could be the month.
