Hi!
I am also new to this site. It has been really wonderful just to read all of your posts and know that I am not alone in this battle. I just started taking Femara today and I will be working with the fertility specialist this time so they will be monitering the process. I have been trying to understand what is wrong with me for so long. I just hope I have success soon. I really can't wait to be a mom. I am soooo ready. I would love to make some friends on this site and hear your stories so please feel free to e-mail me or whatever. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

a complete novice
Hi to everyone,
I just joined this forum....and read quite a few posts and I disovered that I am not familiar with many of the procedures, medications, and abbreviatios used. I am also quite scared of the complexity of it all. I have had two miscarriages and since the last one in 2007 I have not been able to conceive again. After the 2nd miscarriage, My D/C was not performed properly and I had remaining products of conception in my uterus. As a result, I developed severe intrauterine infection which also resulted in an abscess on the left side (tube and ovary). I spent a horrible 2 months in a hospital on very aggressive antibiotic treatment and the abscess disappeared, together with the infection. My hormone tests and all visits to the gynecologists showed that everything is normal. I have not done only something called hysterosalpingography which checks whether there is an obstruction in the tubes. After I read posts here, I am interested in what you call intrauterine insemination....I am sorry to be so ignorant, but please can anyone explain to me how this procedure worked for them, what are the steps in it, etc. I will highly appreciate your replies....i am really depressed Thank you all....any ideas about how I can increase my chances of conceiving and maintaining healthy pregnancy, please help! Thank you.... P.S. I do not even know what BFN and BNP is.... |

daniWow...sorry to hear all that you had to go through, so good that the infection and abscess disappeared with the antibiotics. I didn't have a D&C with my m/c. I took a pill...and it was HORRIBLE. But anyway, welcome to the site and it takes a little bit to get used to the abbreviations. Up top underneath the ad on the screen click on Acronyms and you will be able to understand more what everyone is saying and what their signatures mean. It's right next to the User Control Panel. * that's where you can edit your signature. BFN - Big Fat NEGATIVE (pregnancy test) BFP - Big Fat Positive (pregnancy test) Hope I helped a little bit. I'm just starting this IUI process so I may not be the best at explaining it to you. It helps your chances by inserting "washed" sperm closer to your eggs..so it bypasses all the crap that is trying to prevent the sperm from getting in...and it helps sperm that has low motility to not have to "work" so hard to get where it needs to go. Most people take injections or clomid to help their chances by stimulating follicles or stimulating ovulation. Best of luck! ![]() ![]()

Hello! Brand new to site, and thankful that its here!
We have been ttc#1 for 26 cycles, & this is our first IUI cycle. And this is Day 1. So I am hopeful, excited, nervous, guarded, and pretty much driving myself and DH batty! No one close to us has ever had ANY trouble conceiving, so we are kind of floating out here alone - and it's hard. Basically here's the Reader's Digest version: lvl2 endo (lap to correct 7/09), hsg done at lap was groovy, severe Sjogrens Syndrome (makes CM horrific), DH s/a 9/09 - results were 'awesome' per RE (waiting on exact numbers), anovulatory since ???, 4 cycles clomid with no o or lh surge. I hope this month with the close monitoring and different meds, I will ovulate. And the IUI will bypass my evil CM and we pray for a BFP. I wish everyone luck, and thanks for sharing your stories - it helps people like me who are adrift in a sea of super-fertile friends who are clueless about the infertile emotional rollercoaster. ![]() |

New here! Male-factor
Hello all! I have been lurking around this forum every time I do a google search and someone's post pops up! I finally joined last night so I could hit reply when I felt the urge and I felt the urge quite a few times!
A little background on me as it relates to the dreaded 'f' word (fertility or lack thereof). I am 26 years old but nearing my 27th birthday (tick-tock). My dh is 30. We are both healthy with the exception of a pesky varicocele and happy with the exception of my empty womb. We have been married for nearly 4 years and we dated for 4 years before that. When we got married I thought it would be perfect if we waited for about a year before we started a family SO I haphazardly took birth control pills with no rhyme or reason for about 2 of the first 12 months. I was horrible at remembering to take the pills, remembering to fill the prescriptions, and neither my dh nor I really seemed to care about the potential consequences. In fact, every time I thought 'maybe', we would smile and...hope. After 12 months the worry set in - why haven't we 'accidently' gotten pregnant. So, with the worry came increased effort. I quit pretending (to myself anyway) that I wasn't trying and I started paying more attention to my cycle. Then my sister got pregnant with her second baby (super fertile type that we all hate except she is my exception because she is my sister and best friend). I always wanted to be pregnant at the same time as her so this really made me put on a game face and it also served as a count-down of how long I had been trying and failing - well, she is 4 months pregnant so that is 3 failed cycles or my niece is one today so that is 20 failed cycles, etc. When my sister announced she was pregnant with #3 (this time more carefully bless her heart) I talked to my Obgyn and started using OPK. My nephew was born in August. This summer my obgyn referred my hubby and I to a urologist and an RE. My husband had a series of 3 SA's all 30 - 45 days apart. The pattern was marginal count, marginal motility, and poor morphology (consistently 1% on strict scale). Honestly at this point I haven't had a wide range of tests, I think all signs point to male-factor and the RE thinks it could be cheaper and much quicker to proceed with that assumption for at least 1 or 2 IUI cycles. If unsuccessful, I may be poked and prodded a little more before trying another couple IUI's. Last month was my first medicated cycle, clomid 50mg on days 3 to 7 - anyone else hate clomid? Not only did it make me highly emotional and bloated but I only produced one follicle - which I would have produced anyway - grr! Since the whole point was super-ovulation, we canceled the IUI cycle last month. This month, we stepped up the pace with 100mg of clomid on days 2 to 6 and 75 IU's of follistim on days 6 - 10. On CD 8 I had 7 follicles (12, 12, 13, 14, 14, 15 and 17). I am now on CD11 and using a OPK 3 times a day hoping I don't ovulate before I use the hcg shot. The nurse told me that I could shoot up anytime this weekend but to let the clinic know so they could schedule my IUI but if I don't shoot up my next opportunity for an ultrasound is tomorrow morning at 10am (CD 12). I would like to wait for the ultrasound but my fear is that if I get a natural LH surge only a few follicles will ovulate vs. the effectiveness of the hcg shot. Also if I wait and get the hcg shot in clinic on Monday morning they will want to do the IUI on Tuesday morning. Everything I have read online pinpoints 36 hours as the magic number which I could control a little better by having my hubby give me the shot late tonight. So that is where I am in this saga and current cycle. I have been browsing online trying to decide if I should use the hcg today with the assumption that enough follicles have matured or wait until tomorrow to know for sure...Advice and words of wisdom are always welcome! Hello ladies. I have been reading the site for a while for support and am making my first post. I will be 24 soon, and originally started this journey as 1/2 of a loving lesbian couple. A lot has happened in the 5 years that we were together and we have split. The split came after the ordering of sperm, so I'm sticking with it. I did 1 IUI with no meds and it was unsuccesful. I took a month off to research other options, and am now on CD 4/first day of Clomid. I hope a pregnancy comes soon, as with donor sperm, I have a limited supply (5 vials left, including the one I will use this cycle) and I hope to have 2 kids.

Hey y'all! I'm Jennifer, just found the site yesterday! My husband and I have been TTC for 3+ years. Just found out in September that the problem is antibodies in the sperm. We did our first IUI on September 30. WE WERE SO EXCITED BEFORE WE GOT THERE!!! Then when we went in to have the IUI done, the faces had changed on everyone, because we were only working with about 800,000 swimmers. So needless to say, they told us that day we wouldn't be doing any more IUI cycles. But all we need is one swimmer to go the right way....Right now we're on the 2ww. Normal cycle start date would be tomorrow. Cant test until Friday...Best of luck to all!

Hi....I'm technically a newbie. I have been lurking around this site for a while. And I have left a few comments on a couple of threads. Anyway, DH and I have been trying for about a year, with no luck. I don't know exactly what is causing my fertility problems. I know I have fibroids, but according to my OB/GYN and RE they are near my cervix and should not affect implantation. Also, I had an HSG and it appeared one of my tubes was blocked, but again according to my OB/GYN and RE it looks like I spasmed due to the location of the "block" (whatever that means, but both Dr. said the same thing without consulting with each other based on the x-ray). I, however, think that I may have PCOS. I have some of the symptoms. My RE has not diagnosed me, but he says that I may not ovulate regularly on my own...anyway the rest is in my siggy.
I would like to say that I'm happy to find a group of women who understand what I'm going through (DH is great and supportive, but I feel so "alone" in this process, if that makes any sense)...I'm praying for a for myself and all you wonderful ladies!

hi everyone. so i've been on this site since last week. i have not really been diagnosed with anything other than not ovulating as much as i should. funny thing is i feel myself ovulating every month. my husband was diagnosed with no sperm due to a previous injury. when we first started trying about 4 years ago i went on clomid for 5 months, not knowing what was wrong with us. i responded extremely well to that, but nothing.i have always had a perfect period, 28 day cycle. in january we saw a specialist in another town and he suggested iui with donor sperm. on sept 30 i did labwork at my obgyn, happened to talk to the lab tech who had mentioned they do iui's here locally. i was completely shocked! so that week we saw the doctor, ordered our sperm and scheduled for teh iui. i was on femara 2.5 twice a day and did my trigger shot on sunday. iui was yesterday. i was very nervous. now its so hard to be positive but im trying for my husband. we recently got married in july and he is the love of my life! i am so excited to start a family with him. any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Everyone!
I am a newbie- just stumbled across this board a few days ago. I am 36 and DH is 36 also. We have been married for 12 years. We have a DD that is 11 and a DD that is 8. We did not have anyproblems conceiving those two. We started TTC #3 in 2003. We weren't preventing- and thought , "if it happens, then it happns". I got PG in Feb. of 2007, and MC at 12 weeks. Now over a year later- still not PG. We've done all the testing- just had lap done last month. Nothing has been found as far as a DX. SO, we are waiting on , and then moving on to IUI and injectibles. I have done 6 rounds of clomid- and responded fine, but no . This board has already helped me quite a bit with info- I wasn't sure what to expect with IUI's. Wishing everyone !!Amanda |

starting iui in a week
Me and my husband have been ttc for 1yr. and the RE said I had blocked tubes. I received 2 surgeries, and he removed the cyst, appendix and cleaned both tubes. All my levels was normal, and had a fairly big egg. My husband was over normal for the test. Now, since the sugery the Re thinks i dont ovulate regularly, and said we should start iui, with clomid and the shot.

Hi there!
Hey ladies! My name is Julie and I'm somewhat new to fertility treatment. I say somewhat because my partner tried before, so I'm a bit familiar with things but this is the first time that I am actually TTC. We are using donor sperm from NW Cryobank. It is a lot cheaper than most cryobanks, especially Fairfax (the closest one to us). Unlike my partner who has endometriosis and was Dx with PCOS and insulin resistance after the miscarriage, I am pretty healthy. I have mild scoliosis and my progesteron levels are a bit low. We are now in our first 2ww since I started treatment and are very hopeful that things will work out.
Good luck to us all!
