Hillary - I had LOTS of trouble with Clomid. I seriously felt like I was loosing my mind. When my RE mentioned using Clomid with my IUI I actually started crying. I am using Femara instead. I had very few side effects (a hot flash here and there and some pretty significant fatique). I did have some emotional days but nothing like I did when I was on clomid. I get hives even talking about clomid - it was that bad for me.

Crossing my fingers that you don't have another IUI but if you do, definitely ask for an alternative to clomid.

New to the group

My DH and I have been ttc for 19 months with 1 MC. I joined the group because I feel more and more like I am in this struggle by myself. My DH is great but somewhat disconnected to the process. He is mostly concerned with the end result. It is such a personal process that I feel like I can't discuss it with just anyone, but I can't keep feeling like I'm in it alone either.
I look forward to knowing there are other women with the same struggles and even some that have already overcome them.

Hi Everyone - I just joined today. Dh and I were diagnosed with unexplained infertility back in 2004. We did a couple of rounds of clomid - 2 natural and 1 with an IUI that resulted in our DS. We started trying for #2 in Nov. 07 and we thought we'd get pregnant fairly easy. Dh does have a motility issue but he has a high volume count. We did one IUI back in August of 08 with Femara. I didn't respond to the dose well. My dad was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer so we put off treatments until he passed this March. We then ran into issues with my OBGYN's office - they let go their lab person so they were no longer able to support IUI. I did two more months then with femara and BD. Then I went to the fertility clinic here and was scheduled for my first IUI in July but dh's doctors office did not listen carefully and we did not have some of the required tests from 04. So we had to put off our July round. Then we did a femara/ovidrel IUI in August and September. We took October off because we were on a trip and couldn't do the ultrasounds. We just had our first follistim/ovidrel IUI. We're hoping for multiples because we would like 3/4 kids and we're not sure we have the stamina or the cash to do this a third time!! I will test with HPT on Friday Nov. 20th.

Hi Mettie 143, It sounds like we are on the exact same treatment plan. Are you going to use Ovidrel to trigger as well? That's what I usually have to do and Dr also wants me on Prometrium supp 200mg twice a day right after IUI. It also sounds like you and i are going to get our IUI done on the same week! I have posted in the IUI November 15-22 forum and also in November forum. Let's be cycle buddies and do this together! Lots of to you and hoping you get your !!!

We had 6 mature follicles and a few other that could possible mature but not likely. I was overstimulating so he had to slow my dose down a couple of times!!!

I'm 32 and was diagnosed with Diminished Ovarian Reserve in July. FSH=9.6 (not bad, right?) but it is supposed to be in 1:1 ratio with LSH which was 3.3. HSG test was OK. DH is 31 and there are no problems there. Our RE recommended 3-4 cycles of IUI, then IVF. Donor eggs would be be the next option.

IUI#1
Clomid day 2-6/Bravelle every other day 7,9
08/06/09 3 mature follicles, trigger hCG shot
08/07/09 very difficult IUI procedure d/t bends in cervix; progesterone
08/21/09 Beta

IUI#2
Clomid day 2-6/Bravelle every other day 7,9
09/01/09 1 very large follicle, trigger hCG shot
09/02/09 another difficult IUI procedure, made to drink water for 1 hr to fill bladder then tried again; progesterone
09/17/09 Beta

IUI #3
CD3 U/S showed cyst, but bloodwork proved non-functioning
Clomid day 3-7/Bravelle every day 7-11**started having vision tracers** d/t Clomid
09/28/09 2 mature follicles, 09/30/09 +OPK
10/01/09 full bladder, quick procedure; prometrium
10/16/09 Beta

At this point, I was ready to move on, but DH is not quite ready for IVF... so we did another cycle...

IUI#4
Femara day 2-6/Bravelle every day 6-9
10/27/09 2 mature follicles, trigger hCG shot
10/28/09 full bladder, quick procedure; prometrium
11/12/09 Beta..... ??? Found out today

So my RE wants another 'plan of care' appt before moving on to IVF.... but he's on vacation for two weeks... So I go back 11/25 to start a new plan.

Kandryusky, I feel similar about my DH's feelings... I love him to death, but his emotions seem different than mine through all of this. And it's especially hard that the infertility issue is on my end... And we haven't really told many people so it's hard not to have someone to talk to.

I'm holding onto hope that an IVF cycle will work and wishing the best for all of you too.

Greetings, all.

Just joined the board! (yayy!)

My DH and I just had our first IUI treatment this morning. I have beautiful, consistent 28-day cycles, like clockwork, and have been tracking my cycles for 17 months. We've been trying diligently for 8 months to conceive naturally.

I have one of those fancy-schmancy Clearblue digital monitors to track my LH surges, and we've been TTC on day 11, 13, 14, 15, and 16. No luck.

DH and I both went through the battery of fertility testing. Dr. says everything is normal, and sperm count, and motility is above average.

So, we had our first IUI this morning... very nervous. It's expensive! Our insurance only covered the diagnostic part of this process, so we're on our own paying for all treatments. We'll be able to swing 3-4 IUIs, but I can't see going into debt for IVF treatments.

This forum is great! I love knowing there's other gals out there just like me who want to be a mommy so badly.
It's devastating every month to have rear her ugly head.

Hoping our first treatment worked...

Hi everyone... I'm new to the board too. Just joined a couple of days ago. DH and I have been trying for almost 2 years. We're taking a break from fertility treatments for 2 months right now, just trying naturally and doing herbs/acupuncture until December (when I can have a second laparoscopy).

I'm feeling really down today, but not sure why. I guess it's always hard for me those last few days before expecting AF. I start getting depressed and don't want to face it. I feel like I'm more and more obsessed with this process, like it's consuming me... I wish I could move on and be open to other things again.

I hope this group can be a support... I can really use it. I'm one of those people who blabbed to everyone that we were trying so all my friends and family know, but almost none of them really understand what this is like.

Hi!

What an amazing place for finding strength and support. I am happy to be here.
I am 31 and ttc our first child. First appointment with RE was in August.
HSG came back with possible blocked L tube (although radiologist stopped trying to get fluid through after about 5 mins--after I told him I felt pressure.) R tube and uterus looked good. Luckily, so far all other tests and ultrasounds have come back with great results for me. My DH had a sperm analysis done and showed low motility (30%) and morphology (6% using Kruger strict.) We tried our first IUI on 10/30. Clomid 50 mg for cd 3-7 and ultrasound right before IUI showed 3 follicles--2 22 and one 15 on R ovary. Sperm count was 5 million at time of IUI. We got a BFN on Monday and I just started my second cycle of Clomid.

Sending positive thoughts and wishes to all of you. Thank you for letting me share.

What is Prometrium for?

Yay for cycle buddies...lots of and 's for us

Injecting yourself with the Ovidrel shot sounds intimidating at first, but it's not so bad...you just squeeze a bit of fat around your stomach and I give it about 1.5 inches away from my belly button. You will be surprised how painless it is. Ovidrel is supposed to be the trigger where it helps release your mature folllicles in about 36 hours later, but it also helps the follicles to mature and grow even more until it is released... Prometrium is basically a hormone progesterone. Progesterone helps thicken the uterine lining and makes uterus suitable for the blastocyst to implant..basically it is done to increase the chance of successful pregnancy. I would ask the Dr about that. I go in for my cycle day 12 follicle check tomorrow to see how many follicles and how big they are! Exciting.
