early surge? / number of IUIs

Hello everyone,
I am on my 2ww after an IUI on Nov 24. I developed 4-5 follicles on 150mg Clomiphene, of which the dominant one was 24mm roughly 3 days before my IUI! According to my own monitoring, (Ovacue fertility monitor) I suspect I surged earlier that expected and ovulated naturally the day before my IUI. However, I went ahead and was given the hCG injection 36 hours before the IUI because my doctor insisted that even if the dominant follicle raptured early, the remaining ones (about 15mm at the time) would continue growing to size due to the drugs' protocole. I cannot help but feel that the IUI was done in vain. Am I right in thinking so?
This was my 3rd IUI in a space of 2 years. If indeed unsuccessful, do they qualify as my 3 attempts before moving on to IVF, or do they need to be done on consecutive cycles for that purpose?
I thank you in advance for your responces.

As far as the ovulation goes, I think you're okay with the IUI timing. It only takes one follie!

I don't know what you mean about the 3 IUI's and then on to IVF. Is that your RE's policy?? I personally had 5 IUI's before IVF and I've seen women on here that have had over 10. If your RE only does 3 IUI's, you can always switch RE's if you feel your're not ready for IVF.

Wow, I had almost the identical thing happen. I triggered on the night of the 24th, but that night and the next morning I had a huge amount of CM, and Tuesday morning I could swear I felt ovulation on both sides. My IUI wasnt until Wednesday morning, and all went well, but I cant help but wonder if it was already too late.
I guess we just have to wait two weeks to tell. I'm just going to try to keep myself extremely preoccupied for the next two weeks, and keep reminding myself that if we did miss our window this month, there is still next month.
Sure is frustrating though, huh?!?
Good luck...Ill be thinking about you!

Thanks for the support. The 2ww is driving me mad, yet once again! At the moment ,4dp IUI, I am having a slight cramping sensation. I don't know if this is AF sign or implantation sign. Fingers crossed. Good luck to you too. Let us know how it works out.

Hi There,
I had this problem for both of my failed IUI attempts. I swear I ovulated the day before my IUIs. The second time i know I ovulated because my nipples got so sore that they were unbearable. This would not be good for me, because according to my test I have bad egg quality. So as far as I'm concerned the next day was too late. My eggs seem to dissenigrate really fast and weren't present when the sperm finally showed up. As far as the protocol, it depends on the RE. I know my RE requires that the IUI's be consecutive. They even told me that I could consider going another route after the second IUI failed but they definitely calculate the IUIs consecutively. So you should talk to your RE about your concerns.
