Question Low Estrogen??

I thought I'd ask my wise ladies a question. As you all know (thanks to Sarah16 the big sweety!) I'm doing my first IUI sometime in the next few days and I'm now a little confused about something. Have any of you ever had too low estrogen during these cycles? Also what could cause this, and can they fix it? Supposedly this is my current problem so I'm a little concerned I might have to right this cycle off. Any thoughts?

In the past I have had low levels ( not my current problem) My guess is you will need a higher dose of meds. Some people just dont respond as well as others. I respond s-l-o-w-l-y to the meds and my cycles are very long. I was put on a higher dose and it fixed the problem. Best of luck sweets!

Miranda, my cycles are really long too and I always wondered why. I guess now I know its the low estrogen. I suppose this cycle will be a bit of a waste of time....however I am definately going to ask my RE to up the meds for my next round. How are you going by the way? Any preggers symptoms in the 2ww yet?

Alana,

When did they check your Estrogen levels? My understanding is that at a cd 3 test you levels should be low (same as FSH) that is an indication that you have plenty o' eggs to left to ovulate. Also, I don't know if this is the first time that you have taken Letrozole, maybe that is interfering. I know that when I took clomid on days 3-7, I still didn't O until around days 17-19, which is about what I am off meds as well. If they are expecting your estrogen level to be up on cd 12, based on the perception of a 14 day follicular phase, perhaps they should wait a bit. Then again, if they are basing it on the size of your follicles, then I have no idea what it could be. Sorry, I hope any of this makes sense.

Good luck on your first IUI though.

It may not be too late for this cycle...it really does not matter what day of your cycle you are on it matters what your levels are. If your follies are not ready then you will not ovulate. If they give you meds now you can get the follies up to the size needed and your E2 levels up and then they can trigger you.

Good luck sweets!!

I am doing good, lots of preggy symptoms thats what scares me! I dont want to get my hopes up!

Anastasia, you were actually very helpful, and I feel much better after reading that low estrogen is a good sign too. So I'm not giving up on this cycle yet!

Miranda, thats alright hun...I'll be positive for you. If I read your signature correctly you had lots of little eggies on ovulation day...am I right? That says to me at least ONE of them must have fertilized. I say this is going to be your month Miss Miranda...just you wait and see!

The letrozole can suppress your estrogen more than other meds, so even though it's lower it still makes good follicles.

i agree with Miranda - your cycle is not over yet. My estrogen levels were low as well, and I upped my meds from 75 to 100 cc of follistim a day and it seems to be doing the trick. So i would talk to your Re and see if they are willing to up the dose.

Good luck!

Thanks Historyteach, I kinda need the encouragement right now. I had my ultrasound today and the lining is still too thin (5mm I believe) but my RE refuses to give up even though I suggested we cancel. So I'm now on injectibles (the meds start with a 'P' but I just can't remember what!) and I see him again on Saturday to see how its going. I think this will be a long cycle but at least I now know Clomid and Letrozole are no go's for me. (I'm a complete freak and react to them too strongly!)

I suppose I know more than I did last week though. Thats something I guess. Meanwhile, when are you having your IUI? Unless of course you've already posted that information and I'm just being blonde....again!

Hey Design!
That was actually my exact problem... my estrogen was too low for me to ovulate. Clomid at 100mg and a trigger shot is what seemed to do it for me. My lining was getting on the thin side (it was never super thick to begin with due to the estrogen issues) and it took me 6 medicated cycles including 4 IUI's for my BFP. So, THERE IS HOPE!!!! I too had always wondered why my cycle was so long and why my period was never really there...
BEST of luck to you!

Carley you are now my inspiration! (13 weeks preggers...very exciting! ) Like you I also have the 40-50 day cycles and when I do ovulate it can happen as late as day 30!! I also seem to have thin lining issues but I never had a clue it was low estrogen causing it. While this cycle might not work out....I'm really really happy to finally have an answer after all these years.

alana, i don't know anything about estrogen levels - but wanted to say i'm thinking about you and hope this cycle is still a go. if it's not ... well then they've identified something that can be helped for next time around.
