I have been told my TSH reading is high(8.2,day 3)but have no symptoms and no family history of Hypothroid.Actually i really dont know the symptoms of high level TSH
My TSH in 2007 is 2.88 ,which is good i suppose, and 5.509 in 2006 and t4,free(direct) is 0.98. Does day 3 TSH is high, becoz i was tested on day 3. Why did it increase from 2.88 to 8.2 ,does that mean ,i am Hypothroid. And also, does this affect conception. And what foods(diet habits) should be considered to lower the levels. And any presriptions on this,if so,which doctor should i see,(i mean what type of specialist). Please let me know. |

Tsh
I have been taking synthroid for about 10 years. Hypothyroidism runs in my family (all the women) and I have to keep it checked and keep my medication balanced. I know that "normal" varies between people. For instance my doctor says the normal range is .5 to 5. But I've read other things that say the window is actually smaller. At any rate, I have learned to let my body tell me when it's time to check the levels. I get extremely tired, dry skin, thirsty all the time, etc..
As for hypothyroidism when trying to conceive, I know that Dr. Goldstein said this plays a factor in conception so I would definitely have your RE recommend treatment for you. There are some foods that are said to help lower TSH levels... but i'm not sure exactly what they are. These are foods that are known to inhibit the thyroid: Foods that interfere with thyroid function: including broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kale, spinach, turnips, soybeans, peanuts, linseed, pine nuts, millet, cassava, and mustard greens. Anyway, that's my "thyroid sense" for tonight! I would get right on that though! Good luck! ![]() |

Hi
When I checked my TSH level in 2006, it was around 2. When I checked in jan 2008, it is 5.2 . My PCP told me that I have mildly sluggish thyroid and she suggested me to take Levothyroxine 25 mcg. I took for 4 wks and I went for b/w. Ths TSh in feb is around 3.6. So it became normal. But I need to take the medicine for 8 wks and I need to take an appt with my PCP once I am done taking the medicine for 8 wks. So Hypothyroid is better that hyperthyroid. No need it worry. mitziesmom, Do you live in mass? My RE is Dr. Gladstein at RSC. So I am just curious are we going to the same RE or not?

8.2 is definitely high. You don't necessarily have to have symptoms to have a problem. Also most people who have it don't even realize it so it's possible that family members do have a thyroid problem but just aren't aware. With your TSH being that high I would wonder if it was hypo or hyper. I'm hypothyroid and my TSH has never been that high. It's highest was 3.6 when I was first diagnosed and has been in the 1-1.7 range since starting medication five years ago.
For a good, healthy pregnancy they like for your TSH to be between 1-2 for conception to occur. An untreated thyroid problem can affect your fertility and reproductive health as well as the health of the young embryo. I haven't found any correlation of dieting and the thyroid levels. I also don't know that your CD matters when it comes to the reading, but then again I never tested my thyroid levels based on where I was in my cycle. Definitely something to talk to your RE about. |

Dr. Goldstein
I am actually in TExarkana, TX , but my RE is in Dallas, TX. He works in conjunction with a specialist here so we can do our labs and u/s here instead of travel abroad every other day! :-)

Thanks
Thanks guyz,i am thinking of checking my TSH again in another 2 weeks, and then based on the results,am going to ask my RE.Actually,i was really surprised when my nurse called and said that my bloodtests were normal, even when my TSH is 8.2
Will again do all tests related to thyroid in a couple of weeks, and then,go for the treatment. Thanks again guyz for your response |
