Hello! We have been trying for two years now with no . We have tried fertilaid and that was a . Then we decided that it was time to go back to the doctor. It had been another year since I went. This time he gave me Femara. I had never heard of it. So I am wondering who all has tried it and got a good out come from it.

I'm trying Femara for the first time too this current cycle. My RE decided to switch me to it from Clomid because I had no CM at all whilst on Clomid. Also, Femara is supposed to have lesser side effects, and doesn't thin your uterine lining as much. Compared to Clomid, I do like Femara better! I only had hot flashes the first night I took it, and that's it! And also had EWCM during ovulation time.

So I think it's worthwhile giving it a shot! Best of luck!

I just took my first 2 doses of Femara and tonight will be #3. This is my first IUI cycle. I was originally going to be given Clomid, but I expressed concern because I am a migraine sufferer, so he changed it. I am glad because from what I've been reading, the success rate with Femara seems to be slightly higher and it doesn't mess with other things like CM and uterine lining.

I have a really good feeling about this!!!!!!!

Me: 37 no issues except for late ovulation
HB: 47- sperm count normal
Oreo 4 years old

We are are TTC since 2007 was pregnant in Jan 2008 naturally and has a miscarriage after 7 weeks (blighted ovum) have not been able to conceive since. Finally went to see Fertility Specialist Feb 2009 for consultation. That month was cycle monitoring and now since April/May was on Femara 2.5 mg for 5 days on cycle days 3-5. I have had no luck getting pregnant yet as I ovulate late day 18/19. I had a follow up visit with my specialist and my new treatment plan is : Femara for cycle days 3-8 still take 2.5 mg for 8 days this time . Went for follicle monitoring today , was told one growing so lets pray that this month will hopefully be a . I am also going once a week for accupunture with a lady that specializes in this field so I hope it helps us... I will keep posting too and baby dust for us alll!!! Let me know how you are doing

I'm interested in this too. I'm 38 and had two canceled IVF cycles due to low response. I think my body may respond better with more gentle approach; like IUI with Femara.

I have been taking my temperature and use OPKs and I know that I ovulate every month. Hopefully, some "older ladies" :-) (late 30s early 40s) will respond with their experiences.

That's awesome... I try it this cycle, I am hoping for everything to get their BFP.

Clomid gave me awful PCT results, everyone was dead. Awful environment to concieve in. I was on Clomid for the rec. 6 months.

Femara is better known as letrozole.

Letrozole and clomid have similar effect, although they work differently.

Estradiol works in a negative feedback system to suppress FSH production.

Clomid blocks the estradiol receptor, making estradiol less effective at suppressing FSH production. Therefore there is more FSH production, and more follicular stimulation.

Letrozole blocks the production of estradiol. So there is less estradiol to suppress FSH production. Therefore more FSH is produced, and more follicular stimulation.

Both are oral and relatively inexpensive. They are about equally effective.

Letrozole is not FDA-approved for this use, in fact the manufacturer advises against it, but it's used this way frequently. A similar drug in the same family is anastrazole.

Good Luck, Amyeireland! I'm trying a round of Femera this cycle, too. We decided to combine our latest HSG with a round of Femera, a shot of follistim, and wash it all down with some Ovidrel to trigger.

I have to admit the side effects from the Femera were super mild, but the Ovidrel makes me so tired I feel like I've got mono!

I can start POAS in 12 more days.

Help!!!! I dont know what I should do. I am on CD 14 and possible getting my trigger shot tomorrow. I have no EWCM and dont know if the spermies can get where they need to with out it? What should I do. They want us to BD tomorrow and the next two days but, no CM???? Any suggestions would be GREAT.

mbaggett - can't hurt to do the BD anyway! Try using preseed if you can get your hands on some.

so ladies the ultrasound went great no cyst and lining is great. i so need to scream though here i thought all was great the day couldn't be better. then i get back to work realize hmm where's my meds they are not here yet. i called the pharmacy and they told me THEY DIDN'T SHIP them out b/c the ovidrel still needed Pre-Auth, i seriously started crying. today was my CD 3 and i was supposed to start my femara & FSH and now i can't. i panicked and called my RE nurse she siad it was fine and i could start 2morrow but no later than 2morrow. have any of you ladies started on CD4 ? please i need to ease my mind . i seriously walked out of doc's office as happy as could be and then finding out they didn't send my meds crushed me( i know im being a baby) i just wanted to start this already and i'm scared starting a day late will count us out this IUI. ladies input. meds are SUPPOSED to ship out today , i will be callng them until 5 o'clock to make sure. thanks
