Talking Does IUI really make a difference when you have unexplained infertility?

I am getting ready to start femara AGAIN (third time), this time we will be doing the trigger shot and IUI. Will this really help? My doctor said you have a twenty percent chance of pregnancy with timed relations and femara, now only a twenty percent chaace with IUI! Why do it? Can someone who has had success with IUI's give me some advice. I ovulate every month and last month had 4 mature folicles. My husband has a great count and mobility. Someone please tell us what will work!! Doctor thinks IVF is jumping the gun???

Hey Jennifer! I sure do wish I could answer that question. I am wondering the same thing. I mean, if they don't know what's wrong, how do they know this is the right thing to do????

I am now doing my 4th and last IUI. Either I will get or I will move onto IVF. I think that the general rule of thumb is to try IUI first unless there is no hope with IUI (like with blocked tubes) because it is less time consuming, stressful and hard on the body. Even if only a small percentage of women do manage to get pregnant, those women have been saved the pain and stress of IVF.

I think the only reason we have unexplained infertility is because we picked a crappy RE that jumped right into IUI with no additional testing. Doesn't it make since to find out the problem first?

I did have an HSG but that was well over a year ago and it was inconclusive as to weather or not my right tube is blocked. DH's sperm is a little on the low side for motility but we got pregnant with dd right away. Now baby #2 has taken us over 2 years.

So now that I've found out my RE doesn't even do IVF, we've decided to never go back there again. I swear I left feeling depressed after every appointment. Now we're searching for a new RE and I've decided to take the rest of the year off. I'm taking that time to lose weight and to just not have the stress of infertility hanging over us through the holidays.

I don't know what test you've had done and if you don't feel you've had the right test done then I think you should ask for them or find a different RE.

We're kinda in the same boat. TTC for 4 years with unexplained infertility. I O every month and my DH was told by our RE that even thought he had slight Morph/ Motility issues, his count was so high it didnt matter! The reason we decided to do IUI was basically what everyone else has said: The cost of the proceedure and the cost on your body is so much less why not try it first. There are certain conditions that would make it hard or impossible to conceive naturally: Blocked tube, CM deficiency, "hostile" vagina where basically the conditions in the vagina kill the sperm before they have a chance to get to the egg. So its worth a try! Good luck!

I've been thinking the SAME exact thing!!! Are the odds SO MUCH better that you'll conceive with meds, trigger and IUI, then just with meds, trigger and timed intercourse? Hubby's sperm is great, my tubes are open, I ovulate, etc. The meds and ultrasound to check your follies aren't what is most expensive....it is the lab cost to prepare the sperm and the IUI itself. It seems to me that if you aren't conceiving with meds, good follies and timed intercourse....IUI probably isn't going to do much for you. Unless there are other issues with sperm, tubes, cervical mucus, etc.
That's where I'm at too. I'm considering trying meds (moving onto femara and then menopur) with timed intercourse, no IUI. If neither of those work....move onto IVF. Tough call.
