Tamoxifen

I'll be taking Tamoxifen with my IUI and I was wondering if anyone knew why one of the warning labels says: Do not use medicine if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. ??? I'm sure my RE knows what he's doing, but just curious as to why that would be put on the bottle, when I'm taking it TO get pregnant?

I also did a round of Tamoxifen, most RE's try it as an alternitive to Clomid. I guess it doesn't effect CM as much. As for the warnings, I think them mean over long term use. You are probably just taking it for a few days. Tamoxifen is a drug used to treat Breast Cancer. I would "Google" it if you have major concerns, and talk to your doctor. Again I was also put on it, so it is used widely, and in my case, it was covered under my insurance because it's not considered a drug for IF.

Beware though, if you look it up online, you may find alot of warning and side effects. Remember if your only taking it for a few days a cycle, should be okay.

Oh and do you have the wicked "hot flashes". I think they were worse with Tamox, than with Clomid.
Mind you, it's been a long time since I took Clomid. I guess my memory will be refreshed in the next couple of weeks.

Hope I helped. Good luck with your upcoming cycle!

Hugs,

Thanks Sandy. I start the meds tomorrow, so not sure about the hot flashes yet. I just remember being on Clomid and I think I was crying 24/7! I did get major hot flashes with that too. It's not fun, but hopefully worth it!

I do remember it saying it was used for breast cancer. I knew there was a reason my RE would give it to me even with that warning!!

So thank you again, now I don't have to worry

I searched for this medicine on this site Online Canadian Pharmacy escrow service protecting your money and your health and I got something called Nolvadex Tamoxifen citrate; is it the same medicine that you have mentioned. Seriously I wanted to help you but I’m not sure if it is the same and I refuse to give you wrong information.

I just remember it saying Tamoxifen. I can't say if it's the same medicine I was on. Does it say all three names on the bottle? Mine just had the one name. . . now I'm curious!

Tamoxifen and Fertility

Tamoxifen increases ovulation and doesn't seem to effect unfertilized eggs, but WILL effect fertilized eggs. I assume that your RE prescribed it for you BEFORE you ovulate, but then you are going off it after? If this is the case, you should be okay.

Is this a last resort drug for you? Can you take something else? I am just concerned due to all the warnings...

Oh, here is another link I found:
How Does Fertility Treatment Work?

Seems that it is being EXPERIMENTALLY used in high doses for short periods of time to boost egg production- but looks like you'd want to do that for IVF, not IUI...

For me at least it was only 30mg a day for five days to stimulate my ovaries. Nothing serious. Definitely wasn't high dose since the first month I was on it I had two follies, second month I just had one. With IUI they want more than one follicle, just as with IVF. Since I had such a horrible time with Clomid they put me on the more gentle drug, which was Tamoxifen. They worry about long-term use with it, such as with treating cancer, but short-term use is okay for infertility.

Tamoxifen

Hi Tammy,

I just started my 3rd round of tamox. yesterday. Both times, I ovulated but had due to other issues. This time, I'm trying it with my fist IUI. I didn't notice any side effects (other than the hot flashes) with the tamox. like I did with the clomid. I was a basket-case with clomid.

Anyway, GL! Keeping everything that can be crossed.

Just thought I would add about my experiene so far with tamoxifen. This is my first time trying it. Before I had used clomid which made me O but thined my lining. I went to the doc today for a u/s and was so excited that it didn't thin my lining. It was almost double where it was last cycle. So excited. Just wanted to share in case some one was reading this and was thinking about trying it. I go in for my 2nd IUI next week.

Hello everyone,

I have only joined so new to the site but I am finding the messages interesting.

dimples - I am facing the same problem as you, I am now on my 2nd IUI. With the first IUI in July I was on Clomid which made my lining very thin which probably resulted in the .

I am on the 2WW now and testing on Sunday 24 Aug but had the same problem with this cycle, lining was only 5mm at the time of the IUI. Drs are going to put me on Tamoxifen for the 3rd IUI if a turns up on Sunday which is likely as I have bad AF pains right now.

Anyone have a successful IUI on tamoxifen?
