1% morphology

Is it possible to conceive naturally with this?

Some people say it's possible, but my re told me it would be a very, very small and chance and not likely. We were advised basically to skip over IUI and move right to IVF.

There is someone on the board who's dh took fertility blend and his morphology went up to I thinkn 8% from 1-2% and they ended up conceiving naturally twice. My dh is now taking fertility blend and we are going back for another SA in May. I am not confident that it went up, but we are trying to be hopeful.

My DH had a 1% morphology result with his first SA. We were told it was very unlikely that we'd conceive naturally. We tried for four and a half years, went through three IUIs and one IVF - all failed. Then we started taking Fertility Blend and conceived our son. Now we have conceived again on our own. It's the only supplement I have found that states that it can help improve sperm morphology. Might be worth looking into it. FertilityBlend: Optimize Reproductive Health - Home.

I'm really confused. His motility was good 85%. But the count is low and the morphology was 1% (on the report it said it was supposed to be at least 5%) Is it possible the morphology is low because the count is low? Is there a connection - if one improves the other will?

wantabub,

We conceived on our won 2x, so it's not impossible. When our family dr. saw the results, she said that it wasn't impossible, just that it would take longer.

However, maybe it also depends on what your DH's other numbers are. My DH has 1% morph, but so far, the RE has only mentioned IUI. DH's number is quite high and motility is good, so that's probably why the RE thinks IUI could work with us. In fact, at our 1st IUI, (we did 2 b2b), both samples were almost 50 million sperm, over 95% motility (I can't remember the exact number). They don't look at morph after washing.

I'm sure if it was our 6th IUI, the RE might start to suggest other options.

Also, I'm not sure that your morph is bad because the count is bad. The morph is basically saying, if you have 100 sperm, only 1 (or whatever percent) is normal. Has your DH had a scrotal u/s and been checked out for a varicolcele?

Hope this helps!

I don't know how I missed this thread the first time as I basically just posted the exact same question!

DH was recently diagnosed with male factor. Good volume, low count (16.9mil/ml) and low motility (22%), but really low morph (1%). The Dr. said to keep trying and to do another another SA in two months.

DH started taking Vitamin E, Selenium, Zinc, L-Carnitine, and a multivitamin, and started exercising more and eating better, but I've been wondering how likely this is to help...or even if we should continue trying naturally. If there's no hope anyways, I'd rather not stress about BD timing!

If IVF/ISCI really is our best bet, I just rather know sooner than later so I can start to mentally prepare myself.

Some say it's possible, and technically, it is. But other factors come into play. If it's 1% normal morph, poor count and poor motility, your chances are far lower than someone with 1% normal morph, but high count and good motility. KWIM? I think that will have a lot to do with what your Dr. suggests next.

10/09--DH's varicocele surgery successful! Now we wait to see if SA improves. Next SA 1/10.

Thanks Anne. I'm eagerly awaiting the second SA just to verify things. I briefly mentioned this to DH last night (talking about these things is so delicate), and told him that if the second one comes back the same, that I don't mind being aggressive in taking the next step (meaning going straight to IVF) if he's ok with it.

I just want to stop thinking that it could be possible naturally so I can come to terms with it!

Also - the Dr. told us to do a followup SA in 2 months, but don't you need to wait 3 months to really see any kind of change?
