Timing of IUI (male-factor)
Anyone have any special experiences with the timing of IUI when combating male factor?
I am getting ready for my first IUI w/injectibles. On Thursday of this week which was my CD8 (I am on CD 10 now) I had 7 follicles (17, 15, 15, 14, 13, 12, 12). The nurse told me that I could trigger this weekend if I wanted or could wait until Monday and have another ultrasound on Monday morning to check-up on the follicles. I have been mentally wrestling with what I should do ever since. I have been using about 3 to 4 OPK's a day (obsessive I know) because I am afraid I will ovulate before triggering and I was told that if I ovulate naturally, I will only have 1 or 2 follicles that ovulate vs. the 7 potential follicles if I use the hcg trigger! If I detect a natural surge, I am tempted to shoot myself with the hcg real quick and hope for the best! The nurse said that this wouldn't work but I don't understand why not since it seems to be standard protocol for some people's REs.
On a slightly different note (yet still timing related) my RE typically does the IUI 24 hours after trigger but it seems 36 is standard for most RE's and I read somewhere online that after ovulation or closer to 40 hours post trigger can be more effective for male factor! I just don't know what to do!
I am leaning toward giving myself the hcg shot on Sunday night so I could have the IUI on Tuesday mid-morning. Does anyone think this is a good/bad idea? Most of my follicles should be mature by Tuesday morning right? If they all only grow 1mm a day since my last ultrasound, all 7 would be between 17mm and 22mm.
