hello. just consider me number three...my hubby has the same problem. ours situation is kind of unique. he lacks the vas on th left side due to being a carrier of cystic fibrosis, and the right side, the RE found during surgery(TESE/MESA) was completely blocked. but the dr. found plenty of sperm in the testicles to use in IVF/ICSI we have scheduled in december. I would love to hear your story. Good luck!!

Hi...guess i am "number 4"...DH was diagnosed with azosperma about a year and a half ago...RE is not exactly sure what the cause of it is...nor was his regular endocrinologist. We do know that his testosterone level is very low so just last week he started a testosterone treatment...we are going to see if that helps...male infertility can be a very hard issue to deal with...when we first found out he took it very hard...i would be very interested to find out how other DH's dealt with the news...B

Good to know we are not alone.
I am sure as you are aware it really takes a toll on our men, the who male ego thing is very true indeed. My story is, I had a child at the age of 15, she is now 15. When I met my LH, I was 17. We didn't start trying until I was 20 something, I had stopped having a cycle for many years, but my OB/GYN at the time said I was still ovulating and that I had one child without a problem that I just take a test every month- Great advise right! So after almost over a year of monthly tears, and my LH and I hugging one another wondering why why why? My LH suggests changing dr.s. Well I never changed until like 3 years ago, and what a wonder dr she was (she now has left because she got pg--great), so anyways. My OB/GYN said she would do what ever needed to get us pg. We did his SA and scheduled my HSG along with many more tests. Well my HSG came up that I had a tube blocked but my Dr said that was noting to be discouraged about. Then like two weeks had passed and I had heard nothing in regards to my LH's SA. so I called the Dr. office. A day that I will never forget. The nurse saying.."HOld on, I think something is wrong with these results." she put me on hold for like felt forever and then she came back and said, "I'm sorry he has zero sperm in his analysis." My GOD I thought. I just started crying. SHe refered me to a urologist. So I had to go and tell him the horrible news. Needless to say, that we shed many many tears that night. We went to the urologist, he had run all the test possible and had no logical reason why he was coming up with a big fat zero. He said possibly a blockage within one of the tubes in the testies. Now it was time to call an RE, so he had a "its not a big deal" kinda attitude, which had me rather left confused. He sent us to a specialist, and that Dr. was amazing. He made me and my LH really feel like there was hope. He said that the amount of money we would spend to try and unblock the tube, would be the same as IVF, and unblocking could still lead to zero count because of scar tissue after the procedure. He felt very confident that he will find sperm and that everything will work out. Oh course everything now it is just a matter of saving now to have everything done, because our insurance does not cover IVF. Now that is my story-- sorry for it being so long. I do feel better knowing that I'm not alone here. and I would like to keep in touch in regards with our journeys

Kuddleygal:
Im glad you shared more of your story. i feel more comfortable sharing more of mine now, too. I, too, got pregnant at 15, I was raped and got pregnant. To top that off, i was a virgin when it happened and actually found out i was preggo on my 15th bday, not a real good present. But i had a m/c.I then got married at 16, tried to get pregnant for 3 years, and never conceived. Still don't know what the IF issues were there becasue we both have kids now. The stess was too much for my husband, so we divoreced. I then got married and had my two kids. And now my current husband and i are getting ready to go through IVF;. Very scared, excited, nervous...you know how it is... Good luck!!

WOW- I'm glad you were more comfortable to share. Wild how we have similar stories. I see that you are going to do your IVF in December, how exciting is that!
You will have to keep me posted every step of the way

I am number 5 with Dh who has azoospermia. We have a reason for his. He had testicular cancer and had to have the bad one removed. We have yet to see if sperm production will return, but the Doctor says dont count on it. We hope it will because we know that he had sperm at one point because he has a daughter from a previous marraige.

Number 6. My husband had testicular cancer, too. The biopsy on his good one (TESE?) to extract the few sperm he has was so scary for him. We prayed so hard that it wouldn't destroy his testicle. Our first cycle failed, but they saved 3 vials of sperm so we start #2 on Monday. Good luck!

I just read an article from Cornell that showed a lot of success with IVF with azoospermia. Male Infertility - Non-obstructive Azoospermia and TESE It's very technical but I liked reading that 13 children have been born there.

That article gives me hope.
Even though I just had a BFN I am so encouraged that we had feritilization of three good looking embryo's from frozen, immotile testicular sperm. I am praying that a fresh mTESE gets us our BFP.

That is great news. I was wondering if there was any hope in those frozen guys. When are you going to try again?

Not sure about those frozen guys, my RE doesn't want to freeze any, he wants a fresh cycle.
Anyone heard any good success with obstructive azoospermia?

We used all that we had frozen (500K immotile) so we have to do another TESE for our next IVF. We were thrilled to have had fertilization and transferred three good looking embryo's on day three. Sadly, I did not get pregnant.
The game plan for us is to go to Cornell in NYC and have a fresh mTese the same day as my egg retrieval. We are praying the fresh cycle will give us our BFP. We may not be able to cycle until September because the Urologist we are seeing at Cornell only does mTese four months of the year. We have our consultation on 5/7.

success with azoospermia
Look back a few messages I sent a link to an article that showed success with azoospermia and IVF/ICSI. They had thirteen healthy babies born. My doctors haven't really been pessimistic but they have asked a few times if we are sure we don't want to have back up donor sperm. It is a little tough to turn down a surer thing. If your going the unfrozen route, like we are, I guess you go forward with the whole IVF process up to the day of his retrieval then they get his guys and retrieve your eggs a few days later? Lynn
