new and looking for support

Hi. I'm new to the forum, and just looking for any words words of encouragement. My husband and I have been TTC for a little over a year. We found out that he has a low sperm count--the average of the three tests were between 1.2 million sperm-1.8 million. Our doctor recommended IVF, which we all know is SUPER costly. We plan to first try IUI, I know are chances are low with conceiving in this manner b/c of the low count, but it's much more reasonable than IVF. Our insurance doesn't cover much of anything, and the testing alone has been costly--just to tell us that he has a low sperm count and we don't know why. We're not planning on trying any assisted reproductive techniques with the doctor until later this year, or possibly next year. Currently we are trying the conception kit, and my husband is taking Mega Men and fertility blend. Anyone know of any success stories with such a low sperm count? Any words of encouragement? I'm just looking for some glimmer of hope/home remedy type suggestions that we can try, before we take the financial plunge into IVF. Anyone try the Conception Kit?

My dh's motility and sperm count are fine, but has a low morphology and he was able to get me pg with IUI. It did not work for other reasons, but it is possible. Wishing you the best.

Matika,

Welcome aboard!

Don’t the costs of IF just suck?

I read on another thread that eating almonds may help sperm count, if he isn’t allergic it can’t hurt! Also make sure he is not doing anything to hurt the little swimmers, some men don’t think things through. If he uses a laptop (on his lap) make him stop, they get hot, my husband now uses a lap desk and leaves breathing room for the boys. No baths!! Get him boxers if he doesn’t already and no tight pants. We did a lot of this and it improved my husbands SA from 13mil to over 100mil. At this point I think he is hoping I get pregnant so he can take baths again. And if you have only have one SA don’t decide that he has permanent problems, you really need more than one to get an idea as they can change greatly.

sometimes, depending on your dh's b/w levels (testosterone, lh, fsh), clomid can help improve sperm counts. regular urologists don't always know how to treat w/ that and you might need to see a male infertility specialist. good luck to ya'll.

My husband has low sperm counts and we did our 1st IUI last week. Once they spun and "washed" his sperm, took out the slow swimmers - it increased his count by a lot so to me, that was very promising. We test on 5/22 and the wait is killing me. I would say that yes - there IS hope. Good luck!
