Hi - Im new to this site and wondered if any of you experienced ppl can give me some help. I have just been told my husband has got 'half of what they would like to see in terms of sperm motility' and 'just below what they would like to see in morphology'. I would like to know how this effects our prognosis regarding pregnancy. What are the next steps likely to be? Id love to hear from some of you as we have to wait a few weeks to see the OBs/GYN Dr. to get specialist advice. It seem like a long time to wait to get more info!
I havent told my husband yet about the results as he is extremely busy with work and very tired. I need to find the right time when we can talk, and it would be ideal to have a bit more info for then. We have been wanting to have a baby ever since we got married 5 years ago. Thank you very much |

As long as he has some sperm that they can choose from your RE may suggest ICSI. We've used it with our last three IVF cycles and have had good fertilization rates. I would also suggest having DH take l-carnitine and fish oil to help. Some others have taken FertilAid and have had good results. Remember you only need the ONE!

Hi jilly, I agree with Kris that the best next step to take is going to a urologist for your dh so they can begin figuring out what is causing the problem. Once that is determined, they will be able to tell you your chances and the options you have to increase your chance. Even if you can't conceive the traditional way (I'm not familiar with motility/morphology issues so I don't know to what degree they affect conception based on how high/low they are) there are other options that many of us on here have, are, or will be going through which make it possible to become parents. If he has enough good sperm, they can do IUI with the good ones. If not, they can do IVF where they only need a minimum of one good sperm (I am sure he has much more than that anyway). Either way you are blessed that he does have a sperm count and, though it may get expensive, it's good to have the options out there. Definitely get to a urologist when you can - good luck!!

The first thing you should do is have another semen analysis (SA) done. They can really vary so don't panic yet. Then, like others have said, you'll want to see a urologist that specializes in or at least treats male infertility. Your next steps will depend on what the urologist finds and the 2nd SA. I would also look for an RE or Reproductive Endocrinologist so that you can start getting tested yourself to rule out any other problems.

Jilly!I definitely wouldn't freak out yet. Even with low motility and morphology the count could be so high that you still have plenty of sperm to do an IUI. If his count is low as well there is always IVF. I wouldn't worry too much until you get more info and your Dr.'s recommendation. My husband has severe MF in all three areas (count, morph., motility) started taking vitamins/supplements and has seen his parameters jump from almost none to 24 million. Which is still very low but definitely enough to do IVF which we are doing next month. I think you will find these boards very helpful for information and great support. I sure have! ![]()
